Yeah, someone in upper-management or the ownership clearly doesn't like the guy. It's really really weird.

i would have thought w/ a new gm and a new coach they'd try the "fresh start" approach with the team and give him the benefit of the doubt...but they seem like they're going for a "pile on"

Blues just got screwed by refs

Horrid call gives the Wings a 5 min PP

Refs ruled that Backes hit Wing in head ,, Wasn't even close

That was a terrible call... and Datsyuk just scored. 4-3, Wings.

Blues lose in regulation.

Pretty hilarious EN goal to end it. Not sure what Oshie was doing there, looked like he could have at least swiped it away from the goal... but doubt they would have had any time to get a rush going the other way.

Tampa Bay is very exciting to watch. I love those 8-3 games baby! need more teams to start producing offensively...say the loaded Pens and Rangers perhaps??

Seattle and Portland are 1 and 2.

Bettman will not let another "southern" market team leave for Canada. he simply wont. if its not those two cities, it will be Houston or Milwaukee.

with the Portland Winterhawks owner seemingly stepping into the fray now to possibly buy the Yotes (or a group at least), I think they go to Portland, but I can see Seattle pushing insanely hard for some type of attraction for their stadium...though it isnt really NHL fit, I have seen diagrams/blue prints that proves NHL hockey can be played there. we shall see.

Markham has a population that barely cracks 300K, so how realistic is that for a team? They're 20 miles from Toronto, so not sure where they'd build a new fan base around. Hamilton would be more realistic, but I even think that would be a mistake.
As someone who lives in the area, Markham might as well be considered part of Toronto. They border one another and the only indication you've left one and entered the other is a road sign telling you so. They are also connected by public transit so it would be very easy for fans to get to either arena. To Drive from one arena to the other would take less than 30 minutes depending on traffic.

If a team was to be given to Markham, they would set an NHL record for the fastest sale of season tickets ever.

Leafs season tickets are completely sold out, and if you want them for an upcoming season you have to sign up for their waiting list. Its currently at over 2500 people and on average 2 or 3 of those people will get a chance to buy season tickets a year. So if you were to sign up tomorrow and were put at the end of the list, you're descendants would get an offer to buy those seats anywhere from 833 to 1250 years from now. THAT'S how crazy this city is for hockey.

With a population within easy driving distance that is around 9 million people Toronto could and probably would support several NHL teams. Especially considering many like myself aren't Leaf fans at all, and would just like an opportunity to see live NHL hockey without having to drive to Ottawa or cross the border to Detroit or Buffalo.

Seattle is a great sports town. Would love for them to get a team. Those people shouldn't have to suffer with being Canucks fans.

I know there are Canadian cities that have both an NHL and WHL team, but I wonder how that would work in Seattle? Is there enough of a hockey fan base there to support both? And is there enough to do so without taking away attendance and support for the WHL team? Not saying it can't work there, I'm merely curious.

the attendance for the WHL team in seattle isn't very good. i would imagine the NHL team would take some of the support away.

a big hockey base doesn't guarantee attendance for a junior team - the attendance for the 2 jr teams closest to toronto (mississauga and brampton) is pretty bad...and it's not as though there isn't a ton of interest re hockey in toronto.

Definitely aware of that, that's why I asked how that would work in Seattle, specifically. Here in Chicago, the Steel (USHL) are a good example of that. Huge hockey fan base here in the Chicago metropolitan area but they're one of the lowest drawing teams in the USHL at an average of about 1,500 per game.

if i had to guess it would be the nhl team would be fine and the whl team would struggle. but i think the nhl market is what it is in seattle...either it can support an nhl team or it can't - it's hard to say for sure what would happen with the whl team...i suppose if interest in hockey over all increases, then it could actually help the team...but i think the opposite is more likely to happen (i.e. it would have trouble b/c people would stop paying attention and start following the nhl team).

No. They are not.

QC and Seattle are 1-2. That's pretty obvious to anyone.

Well the Canadiens are destroying Buffalo 6-1 with a little over 4 minutes left.

By the way, is Burke fired even big news anymore? Why's that the thread title?

Brendan Smith just left the game with an injury. Red Wings chances of the playoffs just got that much worse.

we don't want them to get too bad in case they win the draft lottery. much better for them to stagger into the playoffs and get swept in the first round.

Rask shuts out the Leafs

Always nice to see the Rask remind the Leafs of what a horrid mistake they made
