Bourque, Spooner among camp invitees

Bourque, Spooner among camp invitees

Quote:

According to Mark Divver of the Providence Journal, Boston Bruins assistant general manager Don Sweeney attended practice of the organization’s AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins, and informed players of their invite to Boston’s upcoming training camp.

Forwards Chris Bourque, Ryan Spooner, Lane MacDermid, Jamie Tardif, along with defensemen Matt Bartkowski and David Warsofsky were invited to camp.

Bruins camp is expected to begin Sunday at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, Mass.

I'm surprised the future 30-goal scorer Knight isn't invited

Bourque has no expectations from anyone.. infact, to be more specific, people have lowered expectations of him.

I really do think he ends up on the third line to start the season and I'm actually excited to see how he performs under Claude Julien and playing for the Bruins. His dad's numbers hang in the rafters.. maybe something clicks and he goes HAM all over the NHL.

EDIT - I'm absolutely rooting for him.

Also, why is Knight not there? I know he was sent back to Junior. Did he have a set back in transitioning into the AHL?

Good on tardif- he's been a pleasant surprise in providence, hopefully he continues to make a case for himself #darkhorse?

Yep. I don't think he's even been playing in Providence lately, although my interest in them has trailed off quite a bit since a deal was announced. He's had a hamstring injury the past couple of months that's not terrible, but it's pretty hard to play with an injury in that area.

I bet Bourque makes it with Macdermid being the 13th. Spooner is better off getting top-line minutes in the AHL than 3rd line minutes or 60 minutes of press box seating, wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he gets a starting spot next year. A year as a 1st liner in Providence is much better, there's really no need to rush him when he have a lot of other viable options.

Knight has been banged up all season. No reason to worry yet.

Interesting to see Tardif get a look.

16 goals in 32 games for Tardif, while the next highest goal scorer in Bourque has half that at 8.

Gotta give the guy at least a chance to see what he can do because he does deserve the invite at least.

Is krug injured? I figured he'd get a look since he played up with the b's at the end of last season and looked good

If we play Buffalo opening night im going to assume macdermid plays over borque with the absence of Caron; and Mcquaids toughness.

Boy, it'd be a pretty awesome step for this team if Spooner could come in and just grab that 3rd line spot. That's what I'm really rooting for...

I think you may be right.

Bourque could do well playing with Kelly and Peverly. For his style of play they could be the best linemates he has ever had.

MacDermid will bring hustle and grit as the thirteenth forward.

Here's a great idea - root for your own prospects to fail!

Knight went to the ECHL for conditioning games and is back in Providence.

From Mark Divver of the Providence Journal:

Jared Knight had a couple of nice nips in practice. Looked a little winded at various times, but good to see him back and healthy.

Tweet from Mark Divver of the Providence Journal:

Wouldn't have been surprised if T. Krug had been invited to camp, but not shocked that he wasn't. Just sat 3 wks w/ injury. Best days ahead.

Bourque and MacDermid are the only ones who have a shot. Even then, when the games really start to matter neither will be playing.

Ouch. What is your beef with Knight. He is a good prospect from what I see he is just banged up from the way he plays, hard nosed. Might take him a little extra to get where he needs to be.

Disagree. Spooner on the third line gives that line a little offensive jump and after waiting for Zach Hamill and Caron to finally develop I think the B's won't hesitate to give a guy who is producing his shot.

If Spooner brings some playmaking to that third line making it a more dynamic scoring threat the B's could really run the table.

I think in a regular 82 game season then yea, but its a short camp and every game will matter. He may get a shot but it will be a very small window for him to prove himself and I just dont think hes ready.

Seen Tardif three times this season and he scored in each game. All (or at least most since my memory has been known to be faulty from time to time) were scored because he went the dirty areas...tips, rebounds, scrambles etc.

Yeah, but I think Claude is the kind of coach that wants a more traditional third line with a guy that can shut down the oppositions top line. I don't think Spooner is that guy.

Having said that, I like Spooner a lot...super creative, sees the ice well, smart, can pass and shoot.
