HOH Top Goaltenders - Top 40 or Top 50?

I'm not voting in this project, but I'll throw my two cents in.

I helped compile the aggregate list, and when I saw the number of goalies who appeared on most lists I thought there was the potential to go beyond 40 names.

Of course you may prefer to stop at 40. Thinking back to the defencemen project, I didn't really want to push the defencemen project beyond 60 names because

1. We were at the point of ranking and discussing players who weren't necessarily "greats" but "very-goods", if you will. This meant it was getting harder to rank players and it was probably getting less interesting than the earlier rounds for some participants (although maybe not for the hard-core ATD/MLD junkies

)

2. Sometimes it's better to err on the side of ending too early rather than too late, so it doesn't fizzle out.

On the other hand, you do have a perfectly good aggregate list and project structure that you might want to get the most use out of. THN did something similar in 1997 when they took their list of Top 50 players (compiled from Top 50 lists submitted by voters) and expanded it to a Top 100.

Right, that's why we waited until now to ask. Do voters feel its worth continuing, or are the upcoming goalies just not worth the effort?

It's actually surprising how much more consensus there is on the goalies aggregate list than the defensmen aggregate list. On the dman list, there was too much diversity of opinion to expand beyond the planned 60

I'm not a voter, but I've tried to at least be somewhat active in the discussions, which I thoroughly enjoy. I'm a fan of going to 50. Honestly don't see the downside to it.

Feels like the Round 2 voting has been more volatile in this project though.

The downside that the people involved might be sick of it

Or that the goalies just aren't good enough to deserve such recognition...

When we got to around 20, I was like, "that's it...? 100+ years of hockey history and I'm basically out of names...?" I guess it didn't register on my prelim list, which was rather hastily put together I admit...maybe I just assume I was missing someone(s)...

I really enjoyed and continue to enjoy this project thoroughly...I learned so much. However, if my choice is deciding who was better between Roger Crozier and Chico Resch or getting to work on the ATD, I choose the latter...but that's why we vote for things, to represent the majority...
