Gore now richer than Romney thanks to al-Jazeera

Quote:
A lot has changed for former Vice President Al Gore, who left the White House with a reported $1.9 million net worth.

With an estimated $100 million gross profit from the sale of his Current TV to pan-Arab broadcaster Al-Jazeera, Gore is now worth more than $300 million,

guess he can buy a whole lot of carbon offsets now...

As a climate change... advocate, I guess, Gore is an idiot. As a businessman, he's pretty smart.

I'd love to actually have Al-Jazeera here, if only to see if they've earned their reputation of being a good foreign event news channel. I have the feeling they won't get much of a foothold, though.

He's really only a good businessman. He's a total idiot otherwise: as a politician, as a documentarian and researcher and now as a PR guy.

Selling to Al-Jezeera is a dumb move considering everything else around him PR-wise. It might not deserve to be (I really have no opinion on Al-Jezeera as I have no experience following it), but the optics of this are going to be just terrible for him.

I don't think it will be that bad. He's been virtually out of the spotlight since An Inconvenient Truth, with the exception of a few Futurama appearances. Conservatives love to crow about most things he does or doesn't do, but the last election showed their world view is quickly becoming obsolete. Yeah, some idiots will make something about "The hippie libtard socialist Nazi fascist selling out to jihadist, Sharia Law pushers" or something along those lines, but they say that about everything.

Al-Jazeera has a pretty good reputation despite its general area of origin. They have an American (a white guy! with a Christian name, even!) who's in charge of their plans here, so our version will be very whitewashed/Americanized/safe for our delicate sensibilities.

Right... tough to imagine Gore possibly screwing up the country as bad as Dubya did.

Dubya did business with the Bin Laden family, and republicans are crowing over Al Jazzeera. LOL!

No, but I never read/watch any opinion segment/show from any paper/TV channel. I don't need someone else telling me how to think. Give me the facts, and a bit of historical context. That's all I ever want from a news source.

With the added bonus of not having to hear Ezra's voice or see his face.

By the way, either Romney is lying about his fortune ($250m) or he's a much worse business man than he sold himself as. Pretty much everyone else who was a high executive with a successful venture capital company at the same time as Romney is an order of magnitude wealthier than him.

But he knows how to create jobs! After all, he was going to create 4 million new jobs, despite making it clear that the government doesn't create jobs.

Pretty easy odds to calculate, however.

You can't know which dog would randomly attack a human given equal opportunities, but I'll take my chances with a lab over a pit bull every time.

True, but we can make inferences. Assuming a Gore presidency would be somewhat a continuation of Clinton's policies, we can assume he probably wouldn't have pushed through the two unfunded tax cuts. He presumably wouldn't have been surrounded by neocons pushing for the invasion of Iraq. The same applies to the unfunded prescription drug program. Maybe Gore would have found other ways to screw up the country... but the Bush presidency was a total disaster. How far back do you have to go to come up with a failed presidency on par with the W. Bush presidency? What are the chances that Gore would have screwed things up so badly? I just can't picture it.

I think Gore's response to 9/11 would have been interesting to see.
