After 2 consecutive collapses it's hard to believe they will ever do it. They had to go on a historic losing streak to avoid a winning season last year and somehow did it.

They improved the team in the offseason though. Russell Martin is average at best but that makes him a huge upgrade on Barajas. Rotation is more or less the same as last year with a couple wildcards in Liriano and hopefully Cole.

On paper this is a team that should be around .500.

I'd put it at 2:1 odds this year. I don't see an epic collapse like the past two years since this is a more veteran club and we have actual depth at pitcher this time around...but I also don't expect us to be in first place in July again, either.

The Pirates of the Allegheny thread will be up tonight. I did some work on it earlier in the week and accidentally closed the window...so I need to catch up on what I didn't have saved.

In Kiper's latest mock draft, he has Warmack going 18th. Uhhh

Harrison is willing to restructure his contract, but will not take a pay cut to stay with the Steelers. No way can the Steelers afford to push all that money back for a guy in his mid-30's that's obviously past his prime. It'll just end up being dead weight in a few years. Time to move on from Harrison.

Mike Mayock had this to say.

I'd undoubtedly draft him at 17. I wouldn't even think twice about it, and I don't give two ***** what our needs are in that case.

Adams - Warmack - Pouncey - DeCastro - Gilbert

Ages...

22 - 21 - 23 - 23 - 24

We're set for 8-10 years.

Some people wouldn't like that though, as we'd have two 2nd rounders and 3 first rounders in linemen, but as we all know, if you have a top notch line, everything else seems to fall into place.

I'd dabble in free agency to fill holes in the defense.

For the most part I want no part of an offensive lineman within the first 3 rounds this year...but if someone like Warmack fell to us (he won't)...that line would be 5 for 5 set for a long time. That would go a lot further to give us a running game than drafting a running back would, that's for damn sure.

And Colbert's trick to make the old school Steelers fans have a collective orgasm...Steven Jackson as a free agent.

Other than Simon, Warmack is the player I want most. He's the Orlando Pace of guards.

The line is sick if we draft Warmack. We set for years to come.

But I have a feeling that Pouncey will leave when his contract expires (2015). I think he wants to join his brother in Miami. I hope I'm wrong.

I guess it's possible that one of them shifts over, but both of them are better centers than guards. I also think both want to play center.

Nakama (Hibachi/Sushi) in the South Side is a popular choice.

A lot of pedigree on that line for sure, but not very experienced. If the Steelers were really serious about protecting Ben then they should resign Starks to start at LT. The guy was a rock. Cut Harrison if you have to.

I'm hearing that new offensive linemen coach (Jack Bicknell) prefers zone blocking scheme. It requires athletic linemen that can get off the ball quickly and out into space. It's a lot more on technique than power. The coach had a lot of success in KC where Charles ran a ton of yards. Pouncey, DeCastro, Gilbert and Adams would fit well under new scheme. Starks, Colon and Foster would have trouble with new scheme. They don't move very well. We'll see.

Casbah's was a nice Mediterranean place that I took my wife for our first Valentine's Day together.

So David Stern is supposedly looking to bring an NBA team to Pittsburgh.

http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2013/...nba-franchise/

Maybe that's why Burkle was looking at the Kings?

I really don't want the NBA. That league needs contraction more than anything when you consider the ridiculous amount of teams that are totally irrelevant.

I also have my doubts that Pittsburgh can support another pro sports team or that Burkle would want to move a team here that would compete with the Pens.

Yeah, I highly doubt that will ever happen but it is something to keep an eye on.
