I'm glad they paid him a lot of money. They will have trouble signing other players. No way they will sign both Kruger and Ellerbe. They have to pick one of them to sign.

Oh I'm thrilled at their stupidity. Dude has a strong arm but that's it. (unfortunately in today's NFL, that can be all you need with the way penalties are called against the defense) Just pisses me off that JOE FLACCO is the highest paid player.

Hold up? Highest paid player in NFL history?
It does seem odd that Flacco is now the highest paid player ever but he took the gamble of playing out his contract and won a Super Bowl. He really had the Ravens over a barrel and took full advantage of it. I don't blame him.

I'm torn about Steelers pick. I'll be ecstatic if Lotulelei or Warmack falls into our pick. I have to wonder about Lotulelei's heart condition.
Is Lotulelei a fit for our scheme? I haven't paid much attention to him since I figured he'd be long gone by our pick but the heart condition may change that.

One thing I like about taking Warmack or Cooper is we may get back to being a team that can dominate the line of scrimmage running the ball and we may need to be that if we lose Wallace in UFA and don't find an adequate UFA or draft replacement. Not to mention Heath Miller is iffy to be ready for next season after the blown out knee. Our passing game is likely to be weaker next season.

Lotulelei is similar to Ngata. He can play DE on 3-4.

Quote:
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported that Lotulelei is dealing with a left ventricle that is pumping at 44 percent efficiency (verus a "normal range" of 55 to 70 percent).

Flacco is a good QB - nowhere NEAR as good as the contract he signed. If Denver and San Fran safeties had the football IQ of JV middle school players, he'd still be the underachiever he's always been.

Breaston update.

Quote:
Former Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Steve Breaston is considering undergoing the Regenokine treatment in Germany in an effort to repair knee inflammation and early arthritic symptoms, according to sources.
Quote:
Breaston feels his knee is fine but he is being advised by his family and one of his agents, Eric Metz, to explore this revolutionary procedure that worked well for NBA standout Grant Hill, who shared the same doctor, Thomas Carter of the Phoenix Suns, according to a source.
Quote:
Breaston believes he could pass a physical now and sign a one-year deal with Pittsburgh, but he is said to be seeking a longer-term solution to his knee problems, said the source. He plans to continue to train and improve his knee until he is ready to sign with an NFL team.

Signing Gay is actually a very smart idea.

Guys, we had Josh Victorian playing CB at the end of the season last year. Who is after Taylor and Lewis? Cortez Allen?

I would rather our CB depth look like....

Ike Taylor
Keenan Lewis
William Gay
Cortez Allen
Curtis Brown

than...

Ike Taylor
Keenan Lewis
Cortez Allen
Curtis Brown
Josh Victorian

Gay would be a very wise addition to play the proper role. We drowned last year because of our non-existent secondary depth.

Portland-Red Bulls is why I love the MLS. What a game.

I'm with yinz...though EOP, Cortez Allen may have been the best player on D the last quarter of the season. He's the nickel back, at least.

Gay as the #4 CB, I love. As the #3, I'm OK with...he was typically solid as the nickel guy in his time here...it was when he was made a starter he was exposed.

As a depth guy, he fills a void and, similar to Breaston, is a capable place holder for a year or so, allowing the Steelers to concentrate on filling voids at OLB, S and RB early in the this draft. Buys them another year at CB and WR.

I was glad to finally move on from Gay and even gladder when Lewis emerged once he got the opportunity but he quickly may have priced himself out of town. I hope not but time will tell.

If Lewis does leave then I hope Cortez can step up and play close to Lewis' level of last year and Gay can just be the nickel back. I like Gay as a 3rd or 4th CB but he'll drive me insane if he's anything more. I do give the Steelers credit for being proactive though. Gay isn't the worst fallback option if Lewis leaves and the depth will be greatly improved if Lewis somehow stays.

Seems to be official according to his agent

Gay signed to a three year deal.

Do you believe this means Keenan is gone?

Not necessarily. I think he could still come back but I think there's always been a good chance he will be gone. A lot of teams have way more cap space than the Steelers and CB is a premium position. He should get paid big money unless teams hold the zero interceptions thing against him. Although I'd rather have a CB that can cover like Lewis than some guy that gets 5 picks but constantly gets scorched throughout the game.

I don't think Gay has any impact on Lewis returning. If someone offers Lewis $5M+ per year, having spent $800k (guessing) on Gay won't prevent them from retaining Lewis. They are paying someone that $800k, whether it's Ryan Mundy or Leonard Pope or Anthony Madison. Rather it be on a guy who can contribute a little.

If he's at best the 3rd CB, at worse the 4th CB, we could do worse...look no further than last year.

You have to be kidding. Allen was a one man wrecking crew for the last month of the season.

Yeah, Allen was pretty much the only guy forcing turnovers in the secondary last year. I still hope to get Lewis back though.

Taylor
Lewis
Allen
Gay

^ That is an incredibly strong group and you need it in today's pass happy league.

As long as Kennan Lewis is retained, and Gay is 4 on the depth chart, I'm OK with the deal.

All the so called experts see this as a sign that Lewis is gone.
