Considering quotes and efforts from Medvedev, Kasatonov, Fetisov, and others, he's clearly having a gigantic amount of pressure placed on him to stay....and...people expected him to be like, "Later, losers!" Instead of "it's been real, and I'd like to stay, but I can't."

Kovy essentially said the same thing you say when backing out of a party you don't want to be at/attend..."Damn, I'd love to stay/come, but I have a prior engagement." Except in Kovy's case that prior engagement is a 15 year $100M contract, and 20,000 square foot mansions being built.

Kovy ain't here after the first couple days of camp, I'll worry.
Great post, but an excellent analogy

That's what I see happening.
It's right

Apologies if this has been addressed, I just don't keep up with the team as much as I used to.
Anyone have an answer? Would appreciate it.

Within the next 2 drafts. CBA won't change anything.

Unless Lou has something up his sleeve.

Many players return in the NHL very quickly. People here in Russia, it was not pleasant. The next time these players so well no longer be met. Kovy wants to be loved here and then return to the NHL.
I think so.

Lou uses the phrase "When you have time on your side, you use it"

This upcoming draft is in NJ so that plus it's a deep draft.... he will keep the first... by default next year he will forfeit the pick. That's pretty much what's going to happen.

I'm not sure what's going to happen if Kovy doesn't come back. That would be very unprecedented. I hope they would give the pick back...

Kovy can be a Devils legend if he plays his cards right by first making a statement that he loves being a Devils and can't wait to get on Prudential Center ice.

For once I'd like to hear Devils players say something to inspire the fanbase.

Kovy's had nothing but nice things to say to and about us fans, I don't doubt this to be true for the upcoming season.

Because honest assessments of playing in the KHL from former NHL players seems to suggest that playing there blows relative to the NHL.

Kovy is partially doing the PC thing, also, there is serious Russian politics and $$$$ involved here as well.

It would not be wise to shake the dust of the KHL off your boots like you're removing dirt and debris.

However, I took away something completely different from that quote. It basically means, I want to stay in Russia, but my NHL contractual obligations are forcing me to leave and play back in the NHL.

Are you happy with having a player that technically would rather be somewhere else?
That's what I took from that quote too, that he will be back in NJ but only because he has to or feels so and would rather stay in Russia. I just want this to all end. I'm pretty gullible when it comes to this stuff.

Zach Parise has turned the Devils fanbase into a paranoid mess. Kovalchuk being kind to his Russian fans, maybe for the last time as a hockey player, is such a disgrace...

That's a tough situation to deal with. You don't need to be a North American to be a huge patriot. Kovalchuk is and that's obviously underestimated on this board. But figuratively, there's plenty of chivalrous ways to break-up with someone you don't want to hurt. Kovalchuk is just being a gentleman.

Give Salvador the captaincy too. That won't change anything. Kovalchuk already proved who is the true Captain of this team last year. And this guy is coming back after Sunday's farewell party

It's all about the audiance these quotes were intended for and that should be obvious that he is trying to soften the blow for the KHL fans who have seen all of the stars bail. Stop reading into these quotes like it is jabs at the Devils or the NHL he will be back and ready to go following the All Star Game.

So, if CBA passes as expected, Ilya Kovalchuk will be in violation of his NHL contract if he plays in KHL ASG Sun without Devs' permission.

Let him play FFS.

I talked to some Devils' players today and most don't think it's a big deal if Kovalchuk plays in ASG, but one prominent one kind of did.

Its Patty for sure

edit:

The Devil felt that if all of the players have to be report Sunday for camp, Kovalchuk should too.

I think the problem is Grossman and Lou have absolutely no idea what's going on. Datsyuk asked for permission then informed everyone he'd be right back in Detroit after the all star game.

Kovy seems to be taking the "let's see if anyone says anything" approach.

Yeah I just saw that, and came to see if it was posted here yet. It's gotta be Patty. Just because he said ''Prominent'', and I didn't think it was Marty since he's pretty laid back. I figured Patty or possibly Bryce, but I'm heavily leaning towards Patty. Small chance it's Zajac.

It's probably Zubie being pissed that Kovy won't be back in time to go to the Short Hills Mall Apple Store on Sunday.

Don't think it would be Zajac. He'd just stay quiet, I think.
