I can cherry pick anything and make it sound like he's going to the Islanders. Better luck next time

So basically Kovy admits that it's tempting to stay in his home country and that he wants to be faithful to the team and his fans, but knows that he already has a commitment to another team that he can't just abandon.

Clarification: Kovalchuk spoke of this year only. The phrasing leads to believe he'd like to finish season w/ SKA, return to NJD in the fall

I am so for this its insane. Stay the year, come back in September, lets get the 1st or 2nd pick in the draft and rebuild this thing.

This is also what I believe.
He is very loyal. Almost to a fault.

- While there is no official announcement about the end of the lockout, they can not produce. The signing of the agreement will most likely on Sunday. There are no rules I'm not breaking. I was with the team on a trip and could not leave the kids in the big games, like Kazan and Ufa.
-

Who would you leave out of the SKA his captain's armband?
- A lot of the leaders in our team. Coaching staff and general manager of the issue necessarily decided. I think that will be the captain Dmitri Kalinin, who was a captain prior to my arrival.
See what happens when we don't pick and choose information to report?

If this was true, which I doubt it is, he could stay there.

No way he could come back without being villified.

Kovalchuk sounds like that guy who tries to keep all his promises no matter how difficult, like trying to celebrate a friend's birthday on the same day as going to work, having a date, and helping another friend move (I swear I must be paraphrasing from a spongebob episode or something lol).

And every new quote that comes out is just confirming that he is returning home.... well kinda... returning to NJ.

Slava Malamud ‏@SlavaMalamud
"Right now, I can't imagine how (my staying in the KHL) can be arranged... But I don't know anything yet" - Kovalchuk (via Sport-Express)

And thats the guy we dont like...

Draft Drouin with a lottery pick, and then get back Kovalchuk for next season. Sign Getzlaf.

Win Stanley Cup. I like it. Here's to hoping Kovalchuk stays.

Kovalchuk-Getzlaf-Drouin sounds too good to pass up.

Devils could loan him to KHL. Not sure if he'd have to clear wavers though. They actually did this some years ago with Illka Pikkarenen.

Maybe his Russian team sends Vanderbeek some massive amount of coin to essentially borrow him for another 3 months.

Well, you can probably just take some funding from Wayne Enterprises to give Kovy a little extra money incentive to return to the Devils.

How many fans are actually following this contrived saga?

It only becomes a problem if he doesn't leave after the ASG.

You think he made up quotes?

Kovy just keeps putting himself more and more in the hole every time he talks.

Another perspective of the quotes from Igor Kleyner ‏@IgorKleyner

Quote:
Kovy is meeting with SKA top brass tonight to decide next step. Says he would like to stay in St Petersburg this season but...

Igor Kleyner ‏@IgorKleyner

(2) Kovy acknowledges existing long contract with NJD makes it complicated, not sure if staying in KHL possible

SportBox.ru postgame interview with Kovy. Reporter asks loaded Q about all NHLers rushing 2 NA; Kovy doesnt take bait, defends guys who left
