The Rangers will just buy out Redden, his contract expires next year.

Which bring us to Door No. 3.

The only other option for the Rangers is to take Redden's cap hit this season but not play him. Not in New York. Not in the AHL. Not anywhere.

Put him in bubble wrap, cold storage and call it a year. Make sure his cheques show up on time and wait for the compliance buyout period this summer and cut all ties.
Buy-out period is in June.

Amnesty, another thing I'm not 100% on. Where are you guys getting the information on the new CBA when it's not even out. Or is it somewhere? Is there like a thread in HF that is highlighting any of the new changes?
This thread is probably the best option.

NHL and NHLPA still "hammering away" at CBA MOU at this hour... League isn't open for business officially until MOU is completed..
So the players can't start voting until they have something to vote on?

Not looking good for a Sunday camp.

I think they've already voted, I think the lawyers are having trouble putting this thing together and then it has to be physically signed by Fehr and Bettman. Nothing that should inhibit camp starting tomorrow, though with the way this whole thing has gone down I wouldn't be shocked to see Fehr put the damn thing on hold for more concessions lol.

Yeah, the players' vote went down yesterday and this morning, and was finished up by 8AM. It wasn't until after both the NHL and the players had ratified the new CBA that the MOU was able to start being drafted up and will be signed "today" by Bettman and Fehr when it's all done. When that happens, GMs are finally open for business and can resume hockey operations, trades, signings, etc. Bobby Mac thinks there could be at least a few GMs who have been sitting on deals over the course of the CBA negotiations, and expects we might see a flurry of transactions go down shortly after the MOU gets signed off. Camp should have no problem opening up tomorrow right on schedule.

are there teams over the cap (which ones) now that they have to add their previously buried contracts?

Hope the owners didn't try and slide something in there again.

Do we have a link to the players being finished voting?

No teams over the cap either for this season at $70.2M or next season when it drops to ~$64M. Montreal and Chicago are currently in the worst positions heading into the 2013/14 season with around $60M tied up in cap and a few roster spots still waiting to be filled, but it doesn't look like any team will be in desperate need of unloading assets at least over the next year.

The NHL Players' Association concluded their ratification vote on the new collective bargaining agreement with the National Hockey League at 8am et this morning and the results are expected to be announced later today.

The NHL's Board of Governors already voted unanimously in favour of the new CBA proposal on Wednesday.

Once a memorandum of understanding between both sides is signed, training camps and team transactions can officially begin and the league will release its 48-game schedule, which likely begins next Saturday.

Results are in

Players ratify CBA.

Official like.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=413376

The two sides continue to work towards the memorandum.

Once a memorandum of understanding between both sides is signed, training camps and team transactions can officially begin MOD (2 hours after apparently- according to Bob Mackenzie) and the league will release its 48-game schedule which begins next Saturday.

2 hours after they ratified it, eh? Reckon we see a move in the league tonight? Or is that too optimistic?

No, they've gotta draft and sign off on MOU first

Any idea how long it's going to take to draft and sign off on this "memorandum of understanding"?

Ah right forgot about the MOU for a minute. So many technicalities... Wonder what the results of the player votes were like. I wonder if it's released publicly?
