Despite the long loading times for PS3 (especially Be A GM), I decided to give it a shot.
I got inspired by the Caps' recent struggles IRL and decided to start a game with them. I might start writing here after a long break on NHL, so if someone wants me to do some posting, I'll do it.
RECORD (Overall): 33-24-3
RECORD (February): 5-7-0
NOTES: The Stars started the month by losing the first four games, extending a losing streak to five games. GM Modano reacted by calling Washington GM George McPhee. A trade was made between the teams, sending center prospect Scott Glennie to Washington for veteran defenseman, 35 year old, Tom Poti. The deal also included placing Dallas D-man Danny Syvret on the waivers for Washington to claim. The losing streak started with the forwards of the team being cold, when they got better the D and especially the goalies started to slump. Both Bachman and Lehtonen seemed to struggle. The tide was turned with a trip Northwest and two back to back wins over the Flames and the Oilers and Dallas has played a bit over .500 since. Brayden Schenn and Jaromir Jagr combo has been producing the goods as of late. Schenn has 16 + 19 for 35 points in 57 games and Jagr has 22 + 19 for 41 points in 50 games. Jagr now has 687 career goals.

NOTES: The games were close in the month of March, most of them were decided in either OT or SO but many went into the W column for the Stars. Schenn now has a 20+ goal season and Benn hit the 30 goal mark. Unfortunately, Benn got injured in late March but he'll be back for post-season play, which is now secured for Dallas! Dallas Stars will play a playoff series for the first time since the 2007-2008 season! Moves-Like-Jagr now has 690 career goals, tying former Penguin teammate and current owner, Mario Lemieux! He'll hit 700 if he plays next year. Modano is planning to resign Jagr in the offseason. GM Modano also made a trade at the deadline. Modano sent underperforming G Richard Bachman and solid young PWF Matt Fraser to Phoenix in exchange for G Jonas Gustavsson, who Phoenix had acquired earlier the same day from Detroit, and D Chris Summers. Initially Modano tried for Rundblad instead of Summers but Phoenix GM Don Maloney said no. This move also meant that Jamie Oleksiak was sent to AHL affiliate Texas Stars, who look like they will just miss the playoffs (Texas are 2 over .500 play).

just a bit of advice, NEVER EVER get Lecavalier unless he its at the deadline when he is a pending UFA and you can afford it
I traded Nash for the first overall pick and him at the deadline (one bad contract for another) and was planning on trading him in the offseason for cheap, but literally no team will take him. I offered Lecavalier, a prospect, a 2nd, and a 1st for a SEVENTH ROUND PICK and the computer said no because they didnt want his contract haha

I signed Doan (age 36) for 7 years, 2,5m per and traded him for Alfredsson at the TDL next year.. Phew. I didn't want to pay him 2,8m per for 2 years so saved 0,3M there for a while
BREAKING: Washington Capitals has fired GM George McPhee, new GM is Larry Sather
Today the 24th of September Capitals have fired their GM George McPhee, due to results what team was having under his era. New GM, Larry Sather is ex Kings and Blackhawks GM. Sather will take coaching position too. Sather's contract is three years.
"Owners called me and interviewed me at some days ago, if I was interested in to take this team in my hands. Of course I'm, it's honor to take team with this kind of history to your hands. Capitals are in situation where they must be carried well. Some moves, which help this team now and in future we will win the Stanley Cup, I think. I want to make a new Capitals. Very big and bad Capitals. I want that we fight and battle for wins. I promise to bring the Stanley Cup here in these three years", said new GM Larry Sather.
"Now we are having training camp, so we will watch with my staff which players will start their season with the Stars, and which not. Of course we are ready to pull the trigger with some kind of trades. But as for now, there are untouchable guys too. Alexander Ovechkin, Nicklas Bäckström, Karl Alzner and John Carlson won't be moving anywhere. That's what I want to say in public too", ended his first press as a GM of Washington Capitals
Alexander Ovechkin will stay in Capitals
Washington Capitals will play their first game in Friday 28th against Tampa Bay Lightning.
Won the cup last season thanks to Neuvirth and good D, Ovie scored 14 goals in the Playoffs with 7 of them being Game Winning Goals, awesome. Just completed this trade:
To COL: M. Ribeiro, K. Versteeg
To WSH: P. Stastny, M. Sgarbossa
Needed a 2nd line Center since Ribeiro (wasn't bad) was getting old and K. Versteeg really didn't have a spot on the roster due to Filatov (yeah I know haha) and Yakupov ready to step up. Looking good, I think. Cap hell to come soon but whatever.

Reason: ffs
Just claimed Ryan McDonagh (88 OVR) from the waivers because the Rangers traded for Jay Bouwmeester! Thank you NY!
EDIT: Also, during the 2016 Entry Draft a move that WILL come back and haunt me.
To CGY: A. Ovechkin, 2nd round pick in 2016
To WSH: S. Bärtschi, 1st round pick in 2016 (7th overall)
Yeah.. Had to clear some cap space and OVs contract is up in 2017.. Ugh, didn't feel like dangling with the cap and try to sign him then (most likely for 11m+). So I think it's an OK move.. Still, feels odd. Have fun in CGY with no one I guess..? And oh, Bärtschi's offensive skills are great. 5,4m cap hit for 3 more years. Also, OV has been really underperforming, never hit 85+ points with me and last two years under 70 points. More I think of it, this move makes sense. But watch OV score 50+60 in Calgary.. Haha. Glad it's in the Western Conference though.

When you guys do Fantasy Draft, how do you draft? Like after getting your 23 man roster, what do you draft after that? To keep things realistic I'd rather not draft 9 more guys with 4.5 stars.. I'm going to be creating an expansion club with a fantasy draft so
I havent seen a lot of crazy waivers. Best player I have EVER seen go on waivers is Phil Kessel. Ive seen guys like Nik Grossmann and Luke Schenn go on though. But they never make it to me!
Hello everyone I'm new to this forum but I am going to start a maple leafs be a gm and do write ups about it on here
BREAKING NEWS
There is breaking news in the hockey world today as Toronto maple leafs newly hired general manager dave nonis has stepped down from his position today. When asked why by the media, nonis responded "I did not like the pressure of succeeding here in Toronto. It was all too much for me" In his place the leafs hired young Patrick Tremblay. "I am thankful for the organization to offer me this job" said Tremblay when interviewed later that day. Hockey insider bob Mackenzie was able to sit down with Tremblay to ask him a few questions.
Bob: How confident are you in the leafs current roster
Tremblay: I think the roster needs some tweaking but it is a great group of young guys ready to play
Bob: What do you think of your current prospect pool?
Tremblay: I think we have a great group. Guys like Morgan Reilly and jake Gardner are being counted on to carry the leafs in the coming years
Bob:what team needs do you have to address?
Tremblay: I think our top priority right now is a number 1 centre. Trading could address tho need but we got some great guys who may fill the role
Bob: Thanks for your time
More coverage on the leafs and Patrick Tremblay will come after the preseason

Halifax Makes it Look Difficult; Will Face Rival Leafs Just Weeks after Kessel and Reimer Injuries
Will Crosby be ready for the play-offs after leaving the game against the Rebels?
All Halifax had to do was win one of their final 4 games to guarantee themselves a play-off spot.
Instead, they lost their next 4, put their play-off fate in the hands of the Montreal Canadiens, and stumbled their way into the 7th seed in the East.
Thankfully, the Canadiens punched Halifax's ticket for them earlier. After an embarrassing 5-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins with 3 games to go, the Habs dropped their next game, thereby guaranteeing that Halifax would at least secure the 8 seed. The Rebels did little to celebrate their 2nd consecutive play-off appearance, losing 3-1 to the 8th seed Hurricanes and 5-2 to the golf course-bound Capitals with back-up rookie netminder Anders Nilsson (9-8-0-6, 2.01 GAA, .918%) between the pipes. Jonas Hiller (28-25-4-11, 2.46 GAA, .900%) closed out the season at home, dropping the game in overtime to the Flyers.
The lead-up to the play-offs in the last week of the regular season saw some interesting developments. In their game against Halifax, Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby left the game with what was later diagnosed as symptoms of a concussion. Penguins' brass insist that he'll be ready for the play-offs, but one has to believe Pens fans everywhere are holding their collective breath.
The Penguins also did a number on the Toronto Maple Leafs. Without Phil Kessel and James Reimer since their last game against Halifax, the Leafs only won 3 of their next 8 games, and gave up the top seed in the East to the Penguins on the last day of the season.
The Edmonton Oilers won the Western Conference sweepstakes for the 8th seed, winning on the last day of the season to leapfrog both Los Angeles and Nashville, who dropped their final games.

Everyone expected this series to be physical, but who came out of Toronto with an edge?
Game 1
The Halifax Rebels continued their limp into the play-offs with a limp into Ontario.
By the end of the 1st period, everyone watching this game back home in Nova Scotia might have rightfully decided to turn the television off, and find something better to do. Out-shot 10-2, out-hit 12-3, and spending just 93 seconds in the Toronto zone, the Rebels looked nothing like the team that last beat these Leafs into submission near the end of the regular season. On the opening goal from James van Riemsdyk, Rebels defenceman Ty Wishart left Jonas Hiller out to dry, completely missing a hit along the boards and letting Riemsdyk walk in and fire a wrist shot over Hiller's glove, a goal which would essentially open the floodgates.
van Riemsdyk fires the first of Toronto's 5 game one goals into the back of the net
The second period was essentially a repeat of the first, with Halifax managing just 3 more shots on Dan Eliis and boosting the confidence in the Air Canada Centre through the roof, no doubt making everyone in the building forget about the absence of Phil Kessel and James Reimer. Toronto added another goal in the 2nd, and for good measure, continued their same level of play in the 3rd to bury any hopes Halifax had of finding their play-off legs in this one. The closest Halifax would come was on a Niclas Bergfors break-away, which beat Ellis clean, but clanged off the crossbar and up over the glass.
Bergfors was Halifax's only hope at finding a spark in the 3rd, which sizzled as early as it began
TOR 5 | HFX 0
Game 2
Halifax had no reason to be confident heading into game 2... but they decided to be anyway.
The Rebels finally began to look like a play-off team. They came out flying in the 1st, peppering Ellis with 7 shots before Toronto even made it into the Rebels' zone. Halifax would get on the board twice in the 1st period to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room. However, discipline became a big problem in the 2nd, as the Rebels took 2 key penalties in the period trying to ward off Toronto's relentless attack out of the gate to start the period. The Leafs would make no mistakes, with Clarke MacArthur and Bobby Ryan each potting a power play goal in the 2nd to send the game into the 3rd tied. The 3rd period was arguably one of the most passionate periods in Rebels hockey history. The hitting stepped up along with both goalies, and tempers flared after Oskar Osala went down after what looked like a clean hit, albeit with his head turned to find the puck, in front of the net. Both Bergfors and Ryan Jones dropped the gloves on the next 2 two face-offs, and that seemed to give the Rebels all the energy they needed. Nigel Dawes scored with just over a minute left in the 3rd to seemingly give the Rebels the game. However, with Ellis pulled and just 11 seconds left, Jesse Joensuu blocked a Dion Phaneuf slapshot, catching Hiller offguard and giving Joffrey Lupul a wide open cage to send the game into OT.
Lupul gives the Leafs a chance to take a 2-0 series lead
The action went back and forth early in OT, with both goalies making fantastic glove saves that gave their teams a fighting chance. It was 3 minutes in that Milan Michalek made a rush along the boards into the Toronto zone. He was bumped as he drew the puck back to fire a wrist shot, kept control, fired a blind pass out in front... and cue the captain...
John Tavares, firing a one-timer from his knees, sends the series back to Halifax tied at 1

Reason: Few grammar things I noticed.

This is what I do to make things pretty even and to not make it ridiculously unfair:
Refers to ages of players ...
Centers (6): 1 x 18-21, 1 x 22-25, 1 x 26-29, 1 x 30-33, 1 x 34-37, 1 x 38+
Left Wingers (6): 1 x 18-21, 1 x 22-25, 1 x 26-29, 1 x 30-33, 1 x 34-37, 1 x 38+
Right Wingers (6): 1 x 18-21, 1 x 22-25, 1 x 26-29, 1 x 30-33, 1 x 34-37, 1 x 38+
Left-Handed Defensemen (5): 1 x 18-22, 1 x 23-27, 1 x 28-32, 1 x 33-37, 1 x 38+
Right-Handed Defensemen (5): 1 x 18-22, 1 x 23-27, 1 x 28-32, 1 x 33-37, 1 x 38+
Goaltenders (4): 1 x 18-20, 1 x 21-24, 1 x 25-34, 1 x 35+
No signing/trading until end of pre-season in first year.
Only allowed to trade draft picks from current year.
Waivers off.
2012-2013 NHL SEASON (END OF REGULAR SEASON REPORT)
RECORD (Final): 45-31-6
RECORD (April): 2-5-0
NOTES: The final stretch of the regular season started with a five game losing streak for the Stars. In those games their GF:GA ratio was a dismal 4:18. However, GM Mike Modano kept the media cool by playing it down, saying that the boys were just resting (maybe a bit too much) for the post-season contests that awaited. A secured playoff berth meant that backup Gustavsson started 4 of the last 7 regular season games, though he lost all four of them. Lehtonen stepped in and took control, winning the team the final two games of the regular season. The Stars finished 6th in the West and will meet the Vancouver Canucks in the conference quarterfinals.
"It will be a heated series no doubt", said Modano when asked about the Canucks. "I do truly dislike them more then some teams in the league and it would bring me a lot of satisfaction to defeat them".
Regarding injuries, D Philip Larsen will miss the rest of the season with a back injury suffered in the game against the Sharks. Luckily for Dallas the replacement was found a week later when NY Rangers placed Michael Sauer on the waivers.
The last day of the regular season was full of drama. In the West the final seed was contested between the Los Angeles Kings and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Going into the final games Blue Jackets had 88 points against Kings' 87. However, Columbus lost to the Minnesota Wild 2-1 while Los Angeles beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-2. This meant that Columbus' decent season ended; so close, but yet so far. In the East, Islanders had 91 points while the Flyers had 89. Flyers did win their game against the Rangers 4-3 in a SO. It wasn't enough. The Islanders got one point in a 4-3 SO loss to the Devils.

just a bit of advice, NEVER EVER get Lecavalier unless he its at the deadline when he is a pending UFA and you can afford it
I traded Nash for the first overall pick and him at the deadline (one bad contract for another) and was planning on trading him in the offseason for cheap, but literally no team will take him. I offered Lecavalier, a prospect, a 2nd, and a 1st for a SEVENTH ROUND PICK and the computer said no because they didnt want his contract haha
I feel your pain man.
It's not just Lecavalier though -it's a lot of older players who have hefty contracts but are considered on the decline. Or just players who are considered overpaid in general.
I don't mind it though - I like that element of the CPU recognizing some contracts as untouchable (Wade Redden contract while a Ranger, Scott Gomez in MTL, etc). I like the challenge that it brings to the game; in previous games it was way too easy to get yourself out of mistakes that you made. This time though, you have to be creative about it.

What irks me is that teams will go and sign garbage players instead of signing older, far better players to 1-year deals.
For example, signing Garth Murray (59 OVR) to an 3-year deal instead of signing Daniel Alfredsson (84 OVR) to a 1-year deal despite having like $20M in cap space.
When you guys do Fantasy Draft, how do you draft? Like after getting your 23 man roster, what do you draft after that? To keep things realistic I'd rather not draft 9 more guys with 4.5 stars.. I'm going to be creating an expansion club with a fantasy draft so
I usually just pick some borderline nhlers so i can call them up in case of an injury, and then i pick up a couple chlers and then i just try to fill my AHL with decent players.
2012-2013 NHL SEASON (CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS REPORT)
NOTES: Dallas Stars outplayed the Canucks and advanced to the Conference Semis in six games. In Game 1 in Vancouver Kari Lehtonen showed up and shutout the Sedin Bros & Co. Game 2 was the opposite of Game 1, 11 goals were scored. The decisive goal was scored in the first 5 minutes of OT as Loui Eriksson turned the puck over and it didn't take long for Kesler to score. Jaromir Jagr got hurt and missed games 3 and 4. Derek Roy came back from injury for Game 4. Game 3 in Dallas was a nailbiter and the fans were overjoyed when Eric Nystrom put a Colton Sceviour rebound in the net when four minutes remained of the first OT period. Game 4 was difficult for the Stars as Canucks goalie Cory Schneider stopped every shot he faced that night. Game 5, back in Vancouver and Dallas won a tight game 4-2 with Ray Whitney scoring 2. In Game 6 the score was 1-1 when Jaromir Jagr scored, and saluted, at the 38 minute mark. At the start of the 3rd Brayden Schenn made it 3-1. Canucks made it a one goal game but it wasn't enough and Dallas finished it off with empty netters from Whitney and Eriksson. The Stars will meet Phoenix Coyotes next round.

2012-2013 NHL SEASON (CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS REPORT)
NOTES: The first game of the series against the Coyotes was a high scoring affair. Loui Eriksson scored a hat-trick and Yotes' Martin Hanzal scored twice. Stars pressed hard for an equaliser that would've tied the game at 6 but Lauri Korpikoski hit a empty netter. In Game 2 regulation time wasn't enough to seperate the teams. In OT, David Moss scored the winner at the 75 minute mark when he found the puck in a scrum in front of Lehtonen and Poti wasn't able to react in time. In Game 3 Dallas got the early lead but the game was tied by Korpikoski late in the second period. Soon after, Lehtonen got injured and was replaced by Gustavsson. Gustavsson allowed two goals and suddenly Dallas was down 3-1 in the game. Phoenix finished off with a empty netter for a 4-1 final score and grabbed a 3-0 series lead. Lehtonen wasn't seriously injured and returned for Game 4. Going into the third period of Game 4 the game was 2-1 to Phoenix. However, Tom Wandell tied the score with nine minutes remaining in regulation. Overtime started with Dallas dominating the first 10 minutes. Then Phoenix got the hang of it and Jamie Oleksiak was called a questionable interference penalty on Shane Doan. Phoenix capitalized big time on their PP with Captain Doan scoring and this meant that Phoenix swept Dallas 4-0 in the series.
