Kessel to Flyers

To Toronto:

Sean Couturier
Philly's 1st in '13 (Low 1st round pick)

To Philadelphia:

Phil Kessel

Why?

Flyers have current Giroux-Briere with a future 1/2 punch of Giroux-Schenn. Playing Cout on the 3rd line isn't as good of a use of him. Giroux - Kessel on a line together will be unreal.

Hartnell - Giroux - Kessel, amazing first line
Briere - Schenn - Voracek, excellent second scoring

Kessel is young as well.

Leafs need a #1 C to build around, Kessel is not the piece to build around and could leave as a UFA in 2 years.

The Leafs would have to be in full rebuild to do this, I think.

Huge no from leafs.

Add Voracek and we'll think about it.

I don't think Philly does this. Their issue is not scoring goals. There's probably little motivation to move Couturier + for a year and a half of Kessel. IMO if they're moving that a #1 D-man is coming back.

Wow...and you think we overvalue our star players.

Couturier + Voracek ++

is very close to Couturier + Schenn ++

i.e. what the asking price for Shea Weber was. And Holmgren said no.

Since the 1st round pick is low I doubt the Leafs will do it. You'd have to exchange that or add another solid piece.

i don't even like either team, but man do the Leafs get the shaft here.

Philly adds SIGNIFICANTLY more before the Leafs even give this one any thought.

And couturier + Voracek + pick was the price for Carter.

What's your point?

You want Kessel, you pay up.

Like 10 years of Carter vs. 1.5 of Kessel.

If the Flyers were to move Sean it would be for a defenseman. Plus you kind of stated why they would not want him. The Flyers have a core group of young talent they are building the team around and Sean is part of it.

Uh, no. It was Voracek + 1st + 3rd.

By your logic Kessel is still worth Seguin + Hamilton + Knight.

To be fair Carter was moved for Voracek, 1st, 3rd.

Couts value is much higher than a high 1st. He fell in that draft and has been progressing.

I think Kessel's current contract limits his trade value.

I like Couterier, and I dislike Kessel. But Kessel can score goals, lots of them. Put him on a line with some solid talent, I think he's good for 40 every season.

I know Philly loves Couterier, but he alone will not net you Kessel.

With Philly though, you have your strong core, adding a complimentary piece to take you to the next level. Giroux with a sniper like Kessel would be unreal.

That's why there's also a low 1st in a deep draft

Agree with one of the posters above. Change the 1st to something more significant and then it gets serious.

And Kessels value is much higher than Couturiers, regardless of contract.

I think the Leafs take this deal if it was the case. Its what they've always wanted. a #1 center type that is big and we know he can play NHL already. Flyers might need to add maybe another 2nd tier prospect though I'd imagine.

In principal this could work. If not another option is Phaneuf moving.

Schenn will probably move to Giroux's wing in the future with Couts being the #2 center. He'll stay on the 3rd line this year so he can progress, beef up a little bit and focus on his defense. He won't stay at the 3C forever

Offense isn't the Flyers problem. I don't know how many times it has to be said on this board before people get it. The Flyers would only move Couturier for a #1 D-Man or one with top pairing upside

Couturier's awesome but he's no #1C yet. I wouldn't make this deal; it's too risky.
