Prospects Hockey Magazine Rankings

Prospects Hockey is the official magazine of the CHL. They've just issued their Top 35 Players in the CHL. It's good to be a Flyers fan!

1. Phaneuf
2. Crosby
3. Carter
4. Richards

5. Glass

Those rankings were horrible. O'Sullivan third in the OHL? Phaneuf 1? Glass 5? No Lascek? I don't know where to begin.

I haven't seen the full article yet... I wondered about Glass at number 5 though. He had a good WJC, but he's a long way from 5th best junior player in the country.

I posted the full 35 somewhere, maybe not this forum, I can find it.

McKeen's has Carter ranked 8th and Richards 23rd - just among skaters. some of these ranking systems are sometimes kind of a joke.

Is that overall, or just CHL players? There is no way that Carter is the 8th best player in the CHL.

here's McKeen's top 10 NHL skater prospects. They limit their list to players under 25 with fewer than 50 games played.

1 Alexander Ovechkin RW 19 6-2/200 Dynamo Moscow (Rus) Wsh
2 Evgeny Malkin C 18 6-3/190 Magnitogorsk (Rus) Pit
3 Dion Phaneuf D 19 6-2/210 Red Deer (WHL) Cgy
4 Ryan Suter D 19 6-1/185 Milwaukee (AHL) Nsh
5 Cam Barker D 18 6-3/215 Medicine Hat (WHL) Chi
6 Milan Michalek LW 20 6-2/205 Cleveland (AHL)-IRL SJ
7 Fedor Tyutin D 21 6-3/215 SKA St. Petersburg (Rus) NYR
8 Jeff Carter C 19 6-3/195 Sault Ste. Marie (OHL) Phi
9 Thomas Vanek LW 20 6-2/210 Rochester (AHL) Buf
10 Zach Parise C 20 5-11/185 Albany (AHL) NJ

http://mckeenshockey.rivals.com/cont...960&CID=364306

Not a bad list, but are all of those d-men really ahead of Carter? Should Suter be ranked that high? Tyutin? I'm really kind of clueless as to where Suter and Tyutin really rank. Where does Carter fit in if we're considering goalies? I assume M-A Fluery and Lehtonen comes in ahead of him...

Puff-puff-pass, because I want some too.

That list was definitely surprising...Carter is probably top 5/6. I don't know that I'd put Barker and Tyutin ahead of him. I dont think I'd put Tyutin in the top 10...

Cam Barker is ridiculously overrated, hes just a pp qb with some size.

TIf I'm not mistaken that McKeen's list is several months old (last Summer/ Fall?). I'd expect their next one will have Carter prominently featured.

Me to, don't know how Ruggeri and Jones are ahead of Picard. How is Ruggeri 8, he is in the ECHL struggling. Says a lot about our D prospects, which we really have no sure fire players to make the NHL level.. Thought Potulny would be higher, he said thinks will play 4 years of college, I doubt that he will unless the Flyers seem unwilling to sign him.

The one that kind of threw me was Ryan Potulny being higher than Ben Eager. It doesn't make sense unless they're basing this off of potential because Ben is much closer to playing in the NHL. Ryan started off at a blistering pace but went into a sputter by the end of the season. Even now in the playoffs he isn't very noticable. Picard being lower than Jones also confused me, I always thought Jones was destined for the AHL but that's just my opinion.

I still think he is destined for the AHL. Not that much of a shocker Potulny in front of Eager. Eager is far from being NHL ready. I do believe he will make it and be successfull. He is someone we need to be paitent with as he will get better and progress over time. Seems to be putting up more points playing with some skill players.

He (Eager) has 13 points all year - it had to get better.
Jones looks like a #7 at this point but could change.

Power forward types take a few NHL years experience to come around so I'm not suprised. What I said was that Ben was closer to being NHL ready than Potulny, he's only in his sophmore year of college right now. One of which was cut short.

Secondly Alexandre Picard is said to be a more complete player than Ruggeri under his synopsis. Wouldn't that mean that he has more potential? So why's he ranked lower than Rosario.
