Dmitri Orlov to Edmonton?

What would Edmonton have to send Washington's way to acquire Dmitri Orlov?

If its not a top 10 first its not worth it and the shortened season favors Edmonton greatly. I don't think their first is in the top 10 this year.

Orlov's potential to actual value ratio makes him pretty unfavorable for a trade candidate. I can see him becoming close to Carlson fairly soon.

Guess that depends on where you think Edmonton's pick is going to be this year.

I think Caps fans like him quite a bit, doubt they'd let go of him and doubt the Oilers would pay the price to acquire him right now.

Don't the oilers need a veteran D?

Ouside of Eberle or Hall? Pass.

Orlov has tremendous upside and potential and the Caps are really lacking that outside of Alzner and Carlson, now that Green has pretty much peeked. There's really nobody else in the pipeline that could be a top pairing defender, so to give that up, would have to involve a major package for a major piece.

Why exactly does Edm need him? Are your own prospects not enough? I think they are. Its the same thing each time. You ask for a very good prospect or another young dman and get pissed at the response.

When I first started playing the ea sports hockey games I used to trade for every prospect I wanted. I then found that I had more players than I could fit on a roster.

Now in real life its a much more dramatic effect. Young players need time to develope and a place to play. Most likely in a competitive league that pushes them.

If you make all the trades for young players eventually they will fail to live up to thier potential, lose value and be considered busts.

Aquire Orlov without giving up something comparable and your klefboms and Shultz suffer.

Keep your course oil. Develope your guys.

Caps would trade schultz for a oilers jersey and a signed puck.

The new rules changes things. All 16 teams that do not make the playoffs now have a chance at the lottery. It is weighted towards poorer teams, but the old restriction on only being able to move up 3 spots is gone. A team that misses the playoffs by 1 point can now get the 1st overall.

Picks in the top 16 just became much more valuable due to potential.

They do, but they're not trading Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, Schultz or Yakupov, so stop asking.

I'm thinking FA is a better route anyway, and there will be tons of teams this summer shedding guys to get under the new cap.

the salary cap is going to get tighter. teams are not going to trade young players on entry level contracts that are capable of playing in the top half of the lineup. i think orlov is entirely a non-starter

the Oilers don't really have anything realistic to offer in a trade like this

Orlov's not enough from an Edmonton standpoint for one of their big names to be involved but he's too much from a Washington standpoint for it to be worth doing if they aren't

I think so, personally. With J. Schultz and Petry, and a lot of good prospects who will be vying for NHL jobs in the next 1 - 3 years (Fedun, Klefbom, Marincin, Gernat, Musil), I think its more of a veteran presence for the third pair that the Oilers need, not a young potential superstar.

with Klefbom and Marincin waiting in the wings, there isn't any rush to add another young d-man, especially if it costs us a top player, then i'd want a hell of a lot more back than just Orlov. the Oilers could use another vet d-man to replace Andy Sutton. that's what they need right now.

I would be interested in Schultz from WAS as we need a big dman to play on the third pairing and he only has two years left on his contract, what for him.

The Caps biggest need is a scoring winger to replace Semin and make Ribeiro most effective.
Oilers won't give the Caps a scoring winger they want.

Why would Edmonton even have interest in a 21-yo offensive defenseman? They want the team not to be competitive until all 1st overall picks need an extension?

Jeff Schultz for Ryan Jones?

Hartikainen seems to be challenging Jones for that 3rd line RW spot, could he be replaced? I know Oilers fans love Jones though so maybe not.
