Do you see him being signed to another contract by the Nucks?
It depends, I wouldn't mind him getting one year for a last chance, but depending on the free agent market and or if we draft anyone nhl/ahl ready this year. Could go either way and I won't complain.
If you look at the big picture regarding Sauve, I just don't think its a good idea to resign.
Last season, I was a supporter because i thought his simpler defensive play would allow him to play in a small role on our team as perhaps the 7-8 Dman on a cheap contract. But he has not shown he can do that this season and there were simply a plethora of these types of dmen on waivers at the beginning of the season, making it not really worthwhile to sign Sauve.
Secondly, Gillis and the Wolves have to recognize their defensemen situation for next season, which will be crowded and a bit green. Incoming prospects will be Corrado, Price and Tommernes [McNally is showing all signs of being with Harvard]. That's 3 incoming guys, in addition to the remaining guys like Andersson, Connauton and Polasek. Wolves will likely want to keep Hunt in the fold, plus one vet Dmen that can provide a steady presence for our young guys. Sauve is not that steadying presence and does not look to have a place in this crowded group next season.
Was mcNally just suspended from Harvard???? How many year left does he have left........is he like better than K-Con in terms of defensively..Will he be rejoining the hockey team?

Yes. He was involved a cheating scandal that got many students booted- it was related to students discussing answers on a take home exam.
He hasn't outright discussed his plans (or even the incident) with the media to my knowledge, but the fact that he hasn't turned pro leads one to believe he's going to serve his 1 year suspension and return to the Harvard hockey program next season.

I think this is such a foolish decision if his ultimate goal is the NHL.
Sorry but Matt frattin at this point is a 26 year old minor leaguer.
Defensman need to play. Forwards, especially wingers have less nuances to learn.
I wonder if the decision is mutual by McNally and the Canucks.
Just seems like a waste of a year.
The Canucks might be able to afford it as their deep on the blueline, but I don't believe sitting out a year is Something mcnally's game can afford.
Frattin is looking like a career minor leagure right now, but that wasn't always the case. The point was that this does not kill anyone's career.
I'm betting McNally is fine even if has to skip this year, and I'm one of his detractors on here. For the college game, where they play only 35 games anyways (of which he has played 19), missing the remaining games isn't that big of a deal IMO.
So he is just going to sit out the year? Where is he going to skate and keep in shape with timing exc.?
I would rather him sign an AHL deal, then get him some time in Kalamazoo, possibly a stint in Chicago.
Just doesn't seem good for a young project defensemen like that who needs to be playing and developing his game.
I think the Canucks are fine with McNally returning to school, perhaps especially since he'll be the number one Harvard Dman next season with Biega graduating. In the meantime, I am certain he is skating and training his butt off . . . he was (maybe still is?) practicing with a US junior team, and may well return to Harvard with increased focus and intensity. I agree his suspension is a step backward, obviously, but really it's like a season-ending injury after half a season of play. It happens, but it's not the end of the world. He'll be back.
Since the Canucks have three new Dmen arriving in Chicago next season--Price, Corrado, and Tommernes--that's a big enough load of new guys to swallow behind the blue line anyway. Andersson was new this year. It's enough young guys on the D, and they do like to spread out the intake a bit more than that.

Yeah makes sense.
That's a good point, it is the equivalent of perhaps having a season ending injury.
It will just be tough losing that competitive edge, being in game situations and stuff because we do need him to constantly get better defensively and continue to improve his all round game to get to this level.
But your right we don't need him in Chicago next year and perhaps Harvard next year is the best thing for him long term, so I guess we will see what happens.

#Canucks prospects Alex Mallet and Alex Grenier each grabbed one assist and were plus-1 in the @KalamazooWings 3-2 overtime loss today.
We all heard about how he and his family value a Harvard education, hence why he dropped in the draft. So it's not too surprising, albeit disappointing, that he'd choose to sit out a year. It's almost like he had a season-ending injury, but there's a choice involved in this, and it's not ideal.
Can he be red-shirted though, and play a fifth season? Or is that only for cases of injuries?

I think he can only play two more seasons and losses one full year of eligibility.

Dang. Though he is supposed to be a long-term project, so hopefully it won't be too big a bump in the road. He better keep working out though, at the very least.

The bonus is that we're still expecting him to turn pro in two more seasons after this one instead of three.

I was more hoping he'd get another full season to work on his defence because of the scandal but it appears not. Oh well. They can afford to be patient with him anyway.
One more note on McNally: his dad was captain of the Columbia University football team before he joined the FBI. There's a sports-minded dad in Pat's life, as well as a "representative" (agent), a college coaching staff, a hockey "family" at Harvard in his teammates, and an NHL team monitoring and advising his progress. And with millions to be made if he plays it right. He isn't stupid, and he's getting plenty of advice. Unless he's just a hopeless flake, we can be pretty sure he's taking his future seriously during the suspension.
