Considering they actually got the Board of Governors to agree on this plan (which is impressive in its own right) I would have to imagine that, if nothing else, it will be a starting point for future planning.
Self-Modding...

There were a six teams that didn't vote in favor of that set up. Vinnick actually did vote yes because he doesn't seem to care about travel expenses. /shrug

When Bettman did his session during the 2011 Draft, he went into a bit more detail about his plan. There were a few Jets fans in attendance, and they sort of pressed him for his thoughts on realignment.

The West Coast division of:
Los Angeles
Anaheim
San Jose
Vancouver
Calgary
Edmonton
Colorado
Phoenix (Seattle in three years)

Was the "easiest" to plan.

The Central was "tougher to ponder".
Winnipeg
Minnesota
Chicago
St. Louis
Nashville
Dallas
Detroit

That left the central with only 7, in order to accomodate Markham/Hamilton being in the "western" conference. EJ Hradek also alluded to the fact that the stronger road fans of teams in a division like this could lend immediate success to the expansion franchises.

And then you have the Atlantic, where Bettman stated that he'd "rather see Florida there". 8 teams.

Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
NYR
NYI
New Jersey
Washington
Carolina
Florida

Which then throws Columbus in with:
Montreal
Toronto
Ottawa
Boston
Buffalo
Tampa Bay
Columbus
Expansion: Quebec City

/shrug

Of course, both of the guys doing to talking (Bettman/Hradek) were always careful to say that they were just talking "theory".

So the Sens handily beat the Habs tonight.

An Avder-like rant from someone on another forum I visit

Quote:
Montreal, you guys had one job. Just make sure senators don't win and what the ****? Can you imagine this ****ing team is actually going to be 5-1-1 and they're ****ing ****. Their team is wholly ****.

They won most of their games only because of Anderson.

**** you canadiens.

Watching the 'Nucks beat up on the Avs on center ice - I think they will still be a force this season, especially when thay get their 2nd line back.

Also, anyone know what's going on with the Tenderness? 1 assist so far in 5 games, about 12 minutes of ice a night, 11 shots all season. I thought he'd be bringing it this season.

Seeing he is on a 1 year deal, would you want him back if the Wild could get him as a UFA and he stayed concussion free? I'd like to see him reunited with Brodz - those guys had some chemistry.

Eh. Next season I'd rather have some prospects up and re-sign PMB.

Guess who just scored on the PP!

1-1 with less than 30 seconds remaining.

Doesn't look like Vancouver is going to let this one get away tonight.

Yotes fans sure love Johnson a lot in the last 3 games.

Scoring goals and drawing penalties.

A goal by the other Kassian puts the Nucks up 3-0. Glad this doesn't appear to be turning into a 3-point game.
