I think it's like $49 bucks, and change.

No, at least that's not what I was referring to. I remember reading articles until the day he left that said he was committed to getting a deal done with the Devils. The free agency hit on July 1 and he couldn't be gone fast enough.

KHL said no dice, Visnovsky has to return back to NA. His only chance is to somehow make an agreement with Snow, but I doubt that happens.

I lost it.

Hopefully Tedenby isn't on the same path. Hickey gets snatched up by the Islanders (4th in priority behind CLB/EDM/MTL). Still surprised that the Kings couldn't squeeze out a mid-round pick or some 2nd tier prospect who was exempt from waivers. This could be a pretty nice waiver pickup. Isles did pretty well to get Michael Grabner for free from Florida.

Awhile back Detroit lost Kyle Quincey to LA on waivers (apparently they had a trade worked out with Dallas, but Dallas didn't like Quincey's medical report). Quincey had a decent year and LA parlayed him into Ryan Smyth. Colorado then parlayed Quincey for Steve Downie. Tampa parlayed Quincey for a pick which became Andrei Vasilevski. Hickey could be a similar buy low, sell high-ish candidate.

The NHL and NHLPA agreed to accelerated compliance buyouts, so Gomez and Redden can become FA immediately. Start the Gomez to NJ rumors now! (E4)

I think they would pair him with Elias in the 2nd line. With Kovy double shifting if they need a goal.

Robinson disliked Gomez more than Pat Burns did. Wasn't there something a couple years back when Gomez got to Montreal, and Robinson putting in a bad word for him? He was constantly in Robinson's dog house his first stint as head coach, and for the half season he coached after the last lockout.

The Isles are still a few million under the floor, would they dare claim Gomez (or Redden) for the rest of this year to get over the floor cap-wise, since both have to go through waivers?

Considering they both have more than one year left on their deals, no.

I think that's too much real dollars in each case. There are probably more cost-effective ways to spend their cash and reach the floor.

The other semi-real possibility is the respective teams sit on these players for the year. There really is no benefit other than the risk that these players become injured and are unable to be bought out before next season. But being that they are both dismissed from hockey duties, I don't think there is a circumstance by which the teams couldn't buy out either player come next season.

Buying them out them from these contracts early is only a benefit to the player(s). If either team thinks their player could come back to hurt them this season, they're able to maintain the status quo.

A Florida fan mentioned something about a Redden trade proposal last year that made a lot of sense. He said Florida isn't going to take your crappy contracts to get to the floor. They would rather overpay good players than take your overpaid crap player. Why pay an AHL caliber player 6 mil when they can pay a player like Sykora, for example, 6 million dollars to actually contribute. Is Sykora worth 6 mil? No way, but paying him that beats the hell out of paying it to Redden.
