Why pay an AHL caliber player 6 mil when they can pay a player like Sykora, for example, 6 million dollars to actually contribute. Is Sykora worth 6 mil? No way, but paying him that beats the hell out of paying it to Redden.
Except in this case they only have days, not weeks and the pool of players out there to overpay is very limited. And the Isles haven't been able to get any FA's even by overpaying on multiple occasions.

I suppose they could give Sykora and Arnott $2.5 each ($1.5 million pro-rated) and get above the floor, and just not worry about it next year when the floor shrinks but that's presuming both would go there, for that sum.

I'm pretty sure if they NEEDED to spend 6 mil to get to the floor, they could find someone in the FA pool to take it.

Well so much for that:

Lubomir Visnovsky said he looks forward to reporting to the NYI after tending to "personal reasons" which have kept him from reporting.

Haha what personal reasons were those? Not wanting to play for the Islanders? I bet the NHL kinda forced him to come back.

I wish him luck, but I don't think he will make that team. They have a deep defence.

What is it with the Blues and taking on our old-timers? Langs, Arnott, and now White?

Unfortunately I invited my buddy, and his family down for this weekend. It was before the lockout ended though. Not a big deal, but I'll be watching the Devils game no matter what.

Can't bare to watch the Kings hoist their banner. Going with Pens, Devils, then unsure. Probably Avs.

Good point. Pond hockey in Pennsylvania it is. Expect 10-15 goals?

Avs/Wild is at 9:00 PM our time. Hopefully we're not out doing stuff cause I wanna laugh at the two elite players in their first ever game together with their new team!

Yeah I don't usually like high octane offense/no defense but I kind of want to watch this one.

I would rather watch that and two teams I'm largely neutral on then two teams (Pens/Flyers) I can't stand. But obviously Pens/Flyers'll be the NBC game around here so I might watch some of that, or Ottawa/Winnipeg if I'm getting the CI free preview.

I'd rather we be an afternoon game, then I'd be able to flip around between games I am interested in at 7 PM. I ain't watching the late stuff though, not after the Devils postgame and especially not the bro-love fest in Minnesota.

Meh. I'll probably be tuned in to actual hockey. That series last year was terrible and I don't want to see anymore "hockey" like that. Thoroughly un-entertaining and frankly just annoying IMO.

Never did watch the end of the game last year. Will not see the banner raised I could care less. I keep hearing the lamest Stanley Cup call on Sirius. THE KINGS FINALLY GET TO WEAR THEIR CROWN. Only one word for that.

Drinking beer and watching Hockey of any team other then the Kings

Rejean Tremblay just became the biggest idiot/homer writer in the world. Has Montreal finishing first in the East (NJ 14th) with the Habs winning the Cup, Price the Hart and Vezina, Pacioretty the Art Ross and Maurice Richard, Galchenyuk the Calder and Subban the Norris.

Wow.
