Brian Boyle to the Blackhawks

Bolland moves up. Need a guy that can use his strength effectively, win draws. Perfect fit is Boyle, an overpayment is fine by me.

To NYR
1st,

To Chicago
Boyle

What would it take?

Problem is we have no one to take 3rd line duties without Boyle. Honestly for Boyle I'd take your 1st and run away laughing but we have no one to replace him.

If you're trading a first, get someone better than Boyle.

Miller's not ready for 3C duties.

Can't trade our shutdown center, even if it is more than he's worth.

How does this help NY this year? this is a one sided trade because it only helps the Hawks currently and this will hurt the rangers this season when they have a very strong team.

Sadly this is the bottom line. NY is too thin down the middle right now to move anyone unless an equivalent center is coming back this way. Doesn't make sense from NYR perspective.

Try again next fall if Lindberg makes the team out of camp. Right now we don't have anyone to take his spot, so unless you're sending someone back who can do that, there's no deal to be made. However, even if you do, what would be the point then?

Kreider played his minor hockey at center you could move him there or make him play center on the second and drop Stephan to more of a shutdown role on the 3rd...

You better not trade Boyle and rely on Halpern he'll get injured for sure...

I could potentially see a trade like this happening at the draft, but right now we're trying to win the Stanley Cup and Boyle is too big of a piece to give up for futures.

Really can't see the Rangers moving Boyle now. Big, defensively solid 3C on a cap friendly deal and in a division with elite centers . . .

Makes an equally strong case vs. taking a whole FIRST.

I disagree on JT Miller. Ideally it is preferable he get more grooming, but in an emergency, I believe he can handle pro C esp. if he has speedy line mates like Hagelin, Kreider, Callahan.

However, if you go down this road, it's 1x this year, i.e., maybe Miller replaces Boyle or Stepan if high enough return/overpayment is available, but one or the other not both.

The overpay for Boyle was contained in the OP.

An example of profitably moving Stepan would be, if as indicated in title of another thread, 'yotes want a 2c, given their strong D, if we can juggle cap, could we send
something like
Stepan + Yogan + Thomas + one additional prospect we agree on + Rangers 2nd 2014
for
Yandle + Coyotes 4th 2015

... the point being then we are thin at C, we MAY be able to eke out 1 deal, and which way we would go should depend upon what we are offered

The Rangers would probably make this deal at the draft. Let Miller and Lindberg battle it out for the 3C spot in the fall. Or look to sign a cheap stopgap in the summer for a year if neither is ready.
