Seems you are onto something my friend!

Not really. Kostka and Fraser are AHLers. Holzer will start as the 7th dman (potential to be a good bottom pairing guy). Franson and Komi are likely bottom pairing unless they regain significant form this season.

Its a depth move.

Holzer is actually a pretty good defencemen who won't have much trouble sticking in the NHL but I would assume you don't watch much of any AHL. Certainly won't be game breaking but the he's the type of 5-6 you want just because he doesn't make mistakes and is reliable in almost all situations.

Kostka is you protypical AHL allstar who no shows come NHL time but he'll be given looks because of his year this far.

Franson is a NHL defencemen, this board certainly loves to **** on him but it's never been exactly the best place for "enlightened" hockey knowledge. He had a bad year under Wilson, not the first young player not able to adapt to Wilson coaching style, if you could call his fumbling around a coaching style.

I mean at the very least the have legitimate depth. With Holzer they've got 7 NHL defencemen and good AHL depth in case of injuries. To **** on that list shows a lot of bias to be honest.

The overall depth is good, it's the number 5 spot that would worry me especially with Gardiner still injured.

If one of Komi/Franson is on your third pair and the other is your 7th you're in decent shape.

As a devil fan in Toronto I have a lot from all this d listed except for holier blacker and kostka. Fraser is garbage. Mortal is a decent defenseman. He did his job in nj as a 5-6 d. The only problem with him was that they expected him to fit in the top four when there was injuries. He is better than franson and Komi. Would make a decent number 5 in Toronto.

Mottau was bad when he was expected to play a top 4 role in jersey. But when playing 5-6 role he did his job.

Mottau had a 5-6 role with the Isles last year and it was not pretty.

I love the fact that McKenzie and Dreger are so adamant that teams can't trade or sign anyone until after the MOU is done and yet there they are announcing deals before anything is done LOL. Anyone who says teams don't do business when the league is out of business is extremely naive. We'll see where this luongo situation goes tonight or tomorrow.

How is it terrible, it's a depth signing for the Marlies. One of Holzer or Fraser probably made the big club.

To Vancouver:
Motto
Komisarek
Lombardi
Connolly
2014 6th rd. pick (2013 is a deep draft)

To Toronto:
Luongo
Kesler (his value is less because he's currently injured. buy low sell high right?)

Multiple piles of crap is still crap.

On this board, every single thing the Leafs do is terrible, even when it's not actually done for that team but for their affiliate club....

Yeah, I'm honestly surprised Mottau's getting an NHL contract at this point. At absolute best he's a bottom-pairing defenseman ideally suited for a seventh defenseman role. That's it. He's just not great at all. I thought he'd retire by now but I guess he's still wanting to go and the Leafs want him, which doesn't bother me one bit as a division rival.

Guess we'll have to see if the Leafs signed him for the Marlies or intend on using him on their roster this season.
