If teams are worried about getting Palmieri off his game instead of Getzlaf and Perry then the other team is not well coached. Plus, everyone already picks on Perry, putting Palmieri with Perry will have Palmieri playing second fiddle to that.

I just hope Palmieri remembers what made him successful in the latter parts of last season. Go to the net young buck! Also, maybe he'll inject some "youth" in to Getzlaf and Perry. I remember Teemu commenting on how even playing on the same team as the Twins did that for him.

Significance of putting Vatanen on IR?
Is he back in Norfolk the minute he's healthy? If so, why not send him there?

I'm a little fuzzy on how IR works in this case, but I'm not sure that Vatanen could be sent down when he's injured. As for why they might keep him up, if they can send him down, I can think of a number of reasons, starting with spending some time with the Anaheim coaches(and, perhaps more specifically, Niedermayer).

Just curious what are the eligability requirements? Ryan played 25 games the season before and was still eligable. Im guessing it has to do with the fact that he played in two seasons, or is the cutoff somewhere between 25 and 29?

As a matter of fact, the cutoff is 25 games in a single season. You can't play more than 25 games in a single season, or have played in more than six games in each of the preceding two seasons in any major professional league(this is why Pietrangelo wasn't eligible), though I'm a little unclear which leagues qualify under that(the AHL clearly does not).

I don't think playoff games count, which is why Ryan was eligible.

That's true, they don't, but he should have been okay if they did.

Sounds like that eliminates Palmieri on both accounts. Bobby had 25 with playoff games included, so I think he would have been alright either way. Illl still compare Palmieri against other rookies though, hes never had an extended stay with the big club until what should be this season.

Also, who do you guys think gets the next look with the top line if Palmieri doesnt work out? All signs would point to DSP but personally Id like to see what Holland could do there.

From BB's comments it sounds as if he's still strongly considering giving Vatanen a look for a game or two.

What's the deal with Sexton? He was on a one-way this year, but doesn't seem to be playing anywhere. He played a couple of games for Norfolk in January, but isn't listed on their roster anymore. Also, capgeek has him under the "non-roster players" rather than the "buried" category. I assumed he'd be spending the year in Norfolk despite but the one-way. Anyone know what his deal is?

He's playing in tonight's game. Had several shifts with Etem and Wagner in the last half of the game. He just has no shot at making the Ducks right now.

For all the concern about Bonino centering our second line: The Canucks' 2C is Andrew Ebbett. Heh.

Yeah that was a retarded move to trade Hodgson for a winger. What a chump trade.

Word is that Hodgson asked to be traded last summer, and then patiently waited till they found a decent enough return - there were already murmurings prior that he was unhappy with Vancouver.

So what? Make him stay, he's a kid who hasn't proven anything. Giving in to the spoiled child is weak.

That can be destructive to a locker room.

If the vets in the room can't take care of one brat then there are bigger personality issues than him.

I don't think it's just about the vets. When a player requests a trade, teams typically do just that. Holding on to a player who wants to leave really doesn't benefit anyone.

I may be going out on a limb, but based on the little of what I have seen of Palmieri, I am predicting he wil get our first goal of the season.

The story I'd heard is that he got injured in their training camp. Instead of putting him on IR and taking care of him, they shipped him back to his juniors team. They didn't even help his camp find a back specialist to help with the rehab. There may have been more, but the fact that he didn't make a stink about it after that makes me think he has good character.

I don't think he's 5'10". He looked a bit shorter than the other players listed at that height in the AHL.

This measurement thing has been discussed before. No way hell he is 5.9 and under 170 lbs. Fact. His skating style makes him look smaller.

In all Finnish sites he is 180cm (5.10-5.11)...and we don't check heights with skates on here

Here...at least AHL updated their data, 5.10 and 185lbs:
