I was surprised there was still an original Duck name available. Going in I figured I'd have to settle for Kenny Wu or Russ Tyler.

Welcome!
another in the long line of fans hoping the Wild make a play for Parise, i see.
There is a bit of a perfect storm element to this time. It isn't just the lack of success in other sports that got me interested in the NHL, it's the addition of an actual top line and the job Chuck Fletcher has done stocking the cupboard.
If Parise happened I'd certainly be excited, but honestly that choice was mostly made because I really haven't paid the NHL much attention for a few years.
Question for people who know things about hockey, and where to find said things on the internet.
As I mentioned, I'm a big hoops fan, and I've been really interested in the statistical revolution that's gone on across sports over the past decade or so. I've read that the so called advanced statistics are less useful in hockey, that mostly what they've been able to find out is that possession is ridiculously important. Unfortunately, that's about where my understanding ends, and opinions seem pretty split on how to put together a team and draft/develop with that in mind.
Are there good sources of information for some more in depth statistics out there? The only site I really know of is puckprospectus. Is there anywhere else I can go to learn more?

There isn't a Wild-specific advanced hockey blog (honestly if someone wanted to do that it would be a nice niche) but here are some intros to advanced hockey stats.
Thanks much, I'm in the process of making my way through it. I also sprung for the Puck Prospectus PDF, although that's a bit of a disappointment, there's some interesting stuff in there. I wasn't expecting a Wild-centric stats blog, although that would have been cool. Is the best source for the stats themselves behindthenet.ca ?
One thing that puzzles me, and it may be a stupid question, but is there anywhere that keeps track of rebounding/controlling loose pucks? I realize that it would be pretty labor intensive to keep track of, but I ask because rebounding's proven to be a fairly decent indicator of several things in terms of basketball (athleticism, BBIQ, hands). It seems like it could do the same in hockey (indicating something like hockey sense and/or quickness), or at the very least help break down possession beyond zone time and shots on goal. Strikes me as odd that it wouldn't be available for the NHL.

Fav Wild moment/how I became a fan: Their first playoff run. My age was just too young to ever watch the north stars, but old enough to like hockey before the wild existed so I was a Sabres fan until the Wild showed up. The Wild's run at the cup was what brought me in.

Jerseys Owned: An away Backstrom jersey my dad gave to me about 4 years ago as a gift for confirmation.
Ha. Awesome. I like you already. Now you got some back up for when the Sioux get bashed. Kinda been defensless against it this year so far though. They haven't been good. But CC sweep looks good.
Think we need to find this list and burn it. Can you post anonymously for when I post pro Sioux on here? ha
