Play is dead as soon as defender gives himself up

Hits the deck voluntarily. Just like a QB taking a knee.

He never did that, so that does not apply here, no?

Plus, since he went down in his own end zone it's technically a touchback.

Dropping to the floor without trying to advance the ball stops the play dead.

God thing Denver took a knee yesterday after watching Matty Ice win the game from the same spot

Best Billick moment was when the Hawks were 3rd and 5 with 40 seconds left down 6, and he says 'if they don't get it here, you can think about a fg and onside kick, but ultimately I think this is 4 down territory...... but if he gets sacked, it all changes'

Jesus, how badly do you have to not understand the game to think a fg is ever an option there. I'd rather punt and pin them in the 5 and hope for a safety to save some timeouts than take a fg. Actually I think i'd rather voluntarily take a knee, handing possession over to save the 8 seconds a fg takes than take a fg, my god. A kicker shouldn't even need to be in the stadium on a 4 and x down 6 iwht 40 seconds to go

Atlanta did a nice job bottling up the run today, and on the other side of the ball they were the first team this year to drop 30 on the Seahawks. ATL vs. SF may be closer than many here think.

ps-Pete, why u have to call timeout?

For those saying they shoulda kicked the 65 yarder:

Longwell struggled to have the distance from 45 last year kicking indoors for the Vikings (Which is a reason why they drafted Walsh), what makes you think he woulda made it from 65?

If they had Hauschka, I'd agree to kick it, but with Longwell they were better off doing what they did and just hope Rice or Tate or whoever came down with it. Wilson just threw it too soon.

Feel bad for the Seahawks. Not for Carroll. What a hypocritical, arrogant idiot.

Glad the icing of the kicker ended up screwing Carroll over and then he whined because the kicker still got a practice kick off. That is what happens all the time in case you haven't notice cheater

I don't mind Goose and I think they're the best team on FOX.

Billick was awful all game long and Simms wasn't much better in the second game.

Not sure which Atlanta team shows up against San Fran

They wont even be a division favorite next season let alone NFC favorite.

They'll be good again and win double digit games.

Apparently they coaches were warned before the game that no "practice" kicks would be allowed after a whistle. He was freaking out because the refs were't throwing a flag on it. TO be fair the refs did not tell them what the penalty would be and calling a timeout was still stupid.

Because Niners are a better team than Seahawks. It's Niners division to lose.

It's debatable if they are. By the end of the season, both were firing on all cylinders.

SF has won the division 2 years in a row and has advanced to the NFC Championship for the 2nd straight year. Seattle will be watching them play.

SF is the favorite until they're beaten out.
