Nah, once again you are muddying the two. He has the desire to play hockey. He doesn't want to be doing it for the Islanders (which is still debatable...that's never been confirmed it's just conjecture based on actions that may or may not be related). The point is if he didn't want to play hockey he would retire. The fact that he has chosen to play in the NHL still means he WANTS to play hockey. So he will...plain and simple.

Just going through the motions (Rolston) and really being a team player and trying to perfect your craft (JT91) are two totally different things.

Obviously we all hope he comes in here and crushes it. Who knows, maybe he'll feel rejuvenated with a young/hungry team looking to take a next step. The islanders don't have a lot of star power, if the isles can make any sort of run, I'm sure you'll see a lot of pundits claim Lubo's presence had a lot to do with it.
This is what I was saying earlier.. Even if he doesn't dog it, it doesn't mean he's going to do things like mentor the younger players (which is one thing of tremendous value a veteran player can do). There's nothing in it for him to do that. The only reason he's going to long island is so he can play in slovan next season.

You don't get vets to mentor younger players. That's a nice side dish, but you want players to help you win.

Winning is the best teacher for young players. A Doug Weight or Eddie Westfall type who can get a team winning AND teach young kids is great though. I'll also have John Tonelli or Billy Smith type as well.

Viz, if he plays well, gets our blueline going (and Nielson off of the PP blueline!> and helps create scoring chances for our young forewards.

If we get him help in us reach the playoffs, he's helping our kids learn the game better than they could have since 2007.

We need every able bodied vet of quality we can get to field a winning team, and, once again, winning breeds winners. So Viz makes us better.

Except Viz has never had much team success despite putting up great individual numbers. He's been to the playoffs 3 times in his career. During the same time frame the Isles have been to the playoffs on 4 occasions. Doesn't mean that Viz is part of the problem, but he certainly wasn't part of the solution.

Anyone else notice Anaheim is 6-1-1 without him?

Hopefully he'll play well but I'm not holding my breath.

Anaheim also got better. Notice Viz passes very well and can man the point better than anyone on our team? I'd call him part of our solution.

When you can rationalize not adding someone better than Finley or Carkner who is better IMHO than Streit.....you've got issues with the guy. If it gets us two more goals scored a week and cuts down on one goal against a week, that's GREAT. I'm betting it could be that big for us having one less bleh waiver kid and one more talnted vet playing. Add Martinek down the line and goals against drops yet again.

Hope you're right but until the results show on the ice I'm skeptical. He's not Niklas Lidstrom.

Our third D pairing is weak link. They are getting short minutes for a reason. With Vis added we are definetly stronger on D and Cap can spread the minutes out a little better. Maybe Hammer and A Mac won't have to play 30 minutes a game. When Strait was in the box against the Devils you saw what happened when they had to put Carkner on the PK.

...there will be plenty of time to lynch him if he comes in and plays like dog ****...no reason to do so preemptively

Exactly. You have Streit, Viz and what could be Hamonic three halves that have cannons (or should....Hamonic is still growing into that role] and you have three defensive guys whether it be AMac, Strait and Finley (who is more two way] or Marty (same] or Hickey (rather see Marty later this year as I think that's the plan with the condensed schedule}. Carkner is inserted for toughness, naturally. Hamonic and Carkner are essential for some nights.

So we see less minuted for our best pairing and less tired defense.

I wish we had a Witt and a Pilon out there, though....to be honest. But none of them were in a dumpster to be grabbed.

What time do you think he flys here? Its a 8/9 hour flight and Bratislava is 6 hours ahead of us. I would assume the Islanders morning pratices are around 10am.

If I had to guess I would imagine he would probably be arriving sometime late tonight or early in the morning tomorrow. If that's the case he can join the team tomorrow and get examined by team doctors and possibly join them on the ice. That would a best case scenario. What will probably end up happening is he just gets his physical and that's it.

Look, as a fan, I'm allowed my personal opinions on the guy. Even if he's finally coming to America, pulling on an Islanders sweater, and playing top minutes, I can still harbor a grudge for the way he treated our franchise.

I'm not going to demand everyone else share my opinion, and at the end of the day, my opinion matters little in the grand scheme of the Islanders franchise. But he starts (his) season in my personal doghouse.

But hey, it's not impossible to earn the love of Islanders fans by playing hard: does anyone still dislike Nabokov anymore?

I have been very bitter over this whole Viz situation but if he comes in and plays hard and helps the team then I will welcome him....

We have every right to boo him and everyone including Viz is probably expecting us to do so but If we cheer him it will show alot of class and might go along way....

Whats done is done and what matters is that he will be here in the orange and blue ad hopfully help us out.

Agree 100%. I've been his biggest critic since the day of the trade, but I cheer for the entire team. If I cheer a little harder for my favorite players JT, Frans, Martin, Hamonic and PA (still root for him against everyone but us); that is my right as a fan.

While I dislike the way the franchise was treated I'll actually applaud Lubo if he does what I believe he will do next year and turn down more money to be in geographic location that suits his family. A person that places family before career has my respect. I just wish that he was honest about it. The Islanders organization and fans did nothing wrong. I wish him the best but I don't think he'll be of any help and I'm entitled to my opinion.

You are entitled to your opinion but keep in mind the guy is 36 and has made upwards for $30M in the past 5 or so years. I don't know if I call that placing family before career or rather strategic retirement.

his sister got a hurtful post on her facebook wall, she's distraught. Visnovsky needs some personal time to help her through this.

----- okay, so this was at least two weeks later and it wasn't funny then but wanted to say it anyway -----

I'm hoping BOTH Visnovsky and Bailey dress tomorrow.

He's apparently on his way but hell he could already be here with the lack of media coverage we have I wouldn't be surprised.

Google translate of the Slovak news outlet following him to the airport yesterday:

Riveting video of Visnovsky @ the airport

“I want to go there with a clear head. I am sorry that I could not play a farewell match against Slovan Chekov or Levu. I wanted to experience again the great atmosphere that was there from the beginning of the season, “said Visnovsky.

I'll be welcoming Vis with open arms just like I did with Nabakov last season. If he can make our team better, then I'll love him. Besides, what he did wasn't necessarily the worst thing in the world and I honestly don't believe it was anything against the Islanders. The guy is old, he wants to play for his hometown team, I get it. I'm just glad he is finally fulfilling his obligations and (according to him) is going to play hard to earn our forgiveness because that is all we really want to see as fans of the team.

I guess we'll soon find out how this will play out in its entirety.

Jeez...you'd think the guy was shipping off to Afghanistan or something. The one guy (white shirt) he was with looked like Eric Cairns at first...so I thought maybe the Isles sent him to "escort" Lubo back over, so he doesn't get lost. But it's not him.

It's a good thing Visnovsky is coming over before Winter Storm Nemo that's coming at the end of the week. Otherwise, we might not have seen him until much later. Not sure how badly NY and LI are going to be affected, but they are talking 2 feet of snow in the Boston area. Happy, happy, joy, joy!
