hell of a lot better than foster or barker, good 7, passable 6 (although maybe not on cup contender)

Try 8/9 (Alberts). Perhaps even 9/10 if Connauton gets a shot.

I don't see Edler as the kind of guy that would ask for too much, but I see him going for a young high end forward.

Nucks have the cap space though, even with Luongo and shrinking cap.

This would have to be the case for Gillis to not be strung up.

They could've kept Ehrhoff based on the same reasoning.

Ehrhoff wanted a Luongo-esque term though

Ehrhoff wanted 10 years, Canucks weren't willing to give 10 years.

Definitely not TOML

But a lot of why they didn't sign Ehrhoff was to retain the teams cap structure, and the main purpose for that (at the time) was to retain Edler.

I would be very surprised if Edler is moved, and if he is, it will be for a nice return.

He may believe the younger players on the team can force everyone up a roster sport making Edler expendable(Some injury and consistency issues.)

I think it would be a huge mistake to move Edler for anything outside of top end scoring talent.

Edit: Ehrhoff wanted either a huge cap or a long term with super high money at the beginning(which he got in buffalo) neither worked into our cap structure.

I'm an Oiler fan.

I think this is a good signing, he has an under-rated first pass and he is a strong man with decent IQ. Good 6/7 for the Nucks. Hopefully Barker is ahead on the charts

We're sure he won't get it in this new CBA.

Someone from the Canucks organization must have spotted the thread on the Barker signing. I still remember how someone commented that they should have signed Vandermeer over Barker.

Not true. Ehrhoff wanted 5x5.5, but Gillis didn't budge from his internal defenceman salary of 4.6.

Buffalo signed him to that contract after his rights were traded, but that wasn't what he was initially seeking from Vancouver.

I think the deal with the TOML is this

The theory goes that someone could 'hack' into TOML's account and make posts under his account.

So to thwart this diabolical attempt to smear his good name, he signs all his posts TOML so that we know it could not have been hacked.

Edler, Garrison, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Ballard, Tanev are all NHL-ready defencemen. Alberts is solid in a #6/7 role. Vandermeer is a bottom-pairing d-man who will sit beside Alberts in a 7/8 role. Barker is already down to #9, maybe #10 if Connauton or Sauve displace him. These are all good depth signings, not sure where the hate is coming from.

Cheap insurance and most importantly cheap pressure on the young guys (Tanev, Connauton and to a lesser extent Sauve) and underperformers (Ballard) in a shortened season. No one wants to lose a top 6 role to Cam Barker.

Good signing. Guy is as tough as nails. In my opinion, Vandermeer should already be above Barker and Alberts on the depth chart.
