I could see that.

Pretty sure Vandermeer lives in Gastown. I think I've seen him a couple times.

None of EDM's defensemen are even good enough to make the Canucks (except for the ones Vancouver signs).

I think most Oilers fans would love to have Vandermeer on the team for this season. He's a good depth defenseman and he beat up Lucic as an Oiler, he gained a few fans after that.

How many players have played for all 3 Western Canadian teams?

I'm thinking Gillis signed Barker as leverage against Vandermeer. Barker was originally in on a tryout and Vandermeer was in limbo, and suddenly both are signed before training camp.

Either that or Gillis is being very cautious.

Yes, we have a crappy farm team. Unfortunately, the Canucks play in the NHL where having a good team and making playoffs actually counts for something. Yes, some of your teams are loaded with deep prospect pools because your teams have crapped the bed for the last decade. Who knows, one of these years you might actually even make the post-season.

I'm convinced that Vancouver is moving one of their top 4 d. Like really... why on earth would they sign this guy and that bum Barker?

Much better signing than Barker.... but I wouldn't want Vandermeeer having a full time job on my team.

Michel Petit is another who played in all 3.

Did San Jose bench Vandermeer all that time last season? Or was he hurt? Either way, depth signing is depth signing.

I can see Vandermeer & Alberts battling for 7th spot and Barker to the AHL. It's just a matter of time until a Canucks Dman gets injured.

Both Vandemeer and Barker are cap exempt in the minors. So we can start with 7 D and send these 2 to the the minors and recall when we need them (no recall waivers anymore). Should save a few cap $, better than paying an 8th D to sit in the press box.

Seems fine to me to partake in a bit of small scale cap avoidance.

Great signing by Vancouver. A good depth move. Should put them over the top. You can never have enough D man.

Unlikely ... It probably has more to do with our lack of quality replacements at the farm level. After Tanev we don't have a ton of options ... Alberts has proven himself suitably inept, and consensus seems to be Connauton needs more time in the AHL. If any of our top six go down with an injury we'll need guys who can step in on the bottom pair.

Benched him/played him as a 4th liner. Not that he was ever bad, the coaches just loved Colin White for some reason.
Assuming capgeek is correct, it's a solid signing for Vancouver. I wouldn't have minded re-signing him as a 6th/7th either.

Doubt it. When you're playing 48 games in 98 days you're bound to have some injuries. Barker and Vandy just give them some depth once the inevitable happens.

Unlike Barker, this guy could actually contribute in some fashion. Liked his grit and leadership he brought to the Oil a few years ago. Heavy hands when it comes to fighting, the guy has huge mitts. Solid for the Nucks.

Like this a lot more than the Barker signing. At least Vandermeer can bash heads if things get nasty.

Also, too bad Fistric went to Edmonton. Our 6th d pairing could use some shoring up.

So you are convinced the Canucks are moving a top 4 and the reason is because they signed 2 depth guys? That make sense.

Don't understand why Vandermeer and Barker mean a top four defensemen is being moved? MG just wants depth, and Vandermeer adds a bit of sandpaper. At what point is Vandermeer going to have a full time job on the Canucks when our top six is set, with Alberts being the seventh defensemen?
