Newcastle should have done with it and lodge a bid for "everything on French soil that isn't nailed down."

I just hope the newcomers learn the essential phrases for a career at Newcastle, like:

"I am very proud to play for New Castle. I used to admire their great team managed by Kenny Keegan. Adam Shearer was a very good player."

"it is very cold here"

"give me more money"

"the coach is a cretin, he should build the team around me. English football is barbaric."

"L'equipe have misquoted me"

"give me more money, now"

"it would be very nice to play for Arsenal"

"that's still not enough money"

"I demand Champions League football on a silver platter".

"I will always have great love in my heart for...what was the place called again?"

Evilo, just a quick question.

Kaiserslautern been linked with Fauvergue from Reims, seems the chairman is saying he won't leave. Is he as bad as his stats suggest? 14 goals in 115 Ligue 1 games, 34 in 87 Ligue 2 games doesn't seem to me a striker Kaiserslautern should target since we're trying to get back into the Bundesliga

St Etienne has turned down every offer for Aubameyang.

Mighty : Yes, Fauvergue is bad. He is not exactly untalented, but the guy has no head, no instinct, no football IQ.
He's just a tall guy with a big body and not a good striker.
Really he should not play in L1, he's more of a L2 player (and he plays for Reims and not starting most of the time)

Thanks for the writeup. Judging from this, I hope FCK stay away from him, we had enough non-goalscoring strikers last season

Do you follow Ligue 2 as well? If so, any idea how Dirar, Ferreira-Carrasco and Kagelmacher are doing at Monaco? Kagelmacher was one of Beerschot's best players, so I was surprised he chose to go to Monaco, same with Dirar. Ferreira-Carrasco is a big unknown to me.

Monaco stole Kagelmacher from under FCK's noses :<

As an Inter fan, I'm really mad about this. He is a real good young talent with loads of skill and creativity. Without him and Sneijder, there is a severe deficiency of creativity on this team. I just don't see the point of getting the useless Gargano's, Periera's & Rocchi's of this world, and selling a 20 year old Coutinho for 8 mil. I would have rather they sold Alvarez for close to nothing than lose Coutinho for this much. Great move for Liverpool, if he can finally stay healthy.

They're using it to get a kid named Paulinho according to most reports

I don't follow L2 closely, but I keep an eye on it.

Monaco is owned by one of the richest guy in the world.
Their team is filled with players that have nothing to do in Ligue 2 because they have unlimited funds. Heck their coach is certainly not an unkown to you since it's Claudio Ranieri.

So yeah some players chose Monaco over good L1 teams. Next year Monaco should be in L1 and very soon competing with PSG.

Carasco from what I've seen is very convincing. Haven't seen much from the others, but I'll let you know if I notice them.

I just watched some highlights on youtube and am shocked by the lack of fan-interest. According to ligue1.com, Monaco averages just 5100 fans per game. That's beyond pathetic for a team with such a rich history. Then again, I presume many foreigners will eventually show up when Monaco battles with PSG for the league title?

Quite off topic question: Do you have any idea why football is such a popular sport in the north/east of France and Rugby Union reigns in the Southwest?

Monaco has never had many fans. It's a small city with few fans.
And fans from the area hate them and love Nice, Cannes or OM.

As for your second question, it's more like football is #1 football, and rugby is extremely strong in the south of France. Why in the south? I have no idea. More surprising is that rugby is a sport that was created from the game called "la Soule", which was played everywhere in France, but mostly in the north (brought to England by William the Conqueror).
So really, I can't say.

Good low fee. I wonder how much he'd have gone for if he'd stayed in Brazil the last few years. Probably a lot.

Thx for the interesting article, VSK92.

Yeah but really farmers are hardly southern people.
Normandie and Picardie (both northern parts) are farm epicenters for France.

I think the Bordeaux region which was a long time english property might explain some, as was stated in the article.
But then again, as I said "La Soule" was played a lot in the north of France way before the 100 year war.

Know your history, Evilo.
The English lost Gascogne in 1453 when the French won La Bataille de Castillon, but it wasn't until 1558 that France succeeded in capturing Calais. So if we follow that logic, Rugby Union should be most popular in La Flandre. ^-^

Ya I've heard that too, along with Belhanda. I'd rather Belhanda to be honest.

I want to see Paulinho play in Europe, what i've seen reminds me of Ballack, not at that high a level, but Paulinho's still developing.

Had to share this. Laughing so hard.

Quote:
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says the January transfer window should be limited to two transfers per club and is "unfair" in its current form.

"It is unfair some teams have played, for example, Newcastle already and then some still have to face a side with six or eight new players," said Wenger.

"I think it should be completely cut out or limited to two players."

Wenger has not signed any players this month and said he would only do so if the right one became available.

What a whiner.

Remember when Wenger wanted to eliminate throw in's and change them to 'kick ins' because of the Delap long throw?

Yeah but Calais is not Picardie or Normandie where la soule was the most popular...

What a whiner.
And yet he's right.
The winter mercato is just another way for richer teams to avoid relegation. It just shouldn't happen.

Anyway, Anelka has signed with Juventus.

Wenger = whiner. newcastle lost their best player- is it unfair that teams get to play them after they lost ba?

some people will go to any lengths to defend their favorites. if arsenal can't beat a team in 17th place even after they spent a whopping net of about 7 million (after the ba sale) then maybe Wenger is doing it wrong.
