I was going for the Pats but Marlies is definitely going with tradition, and I love it. Not to mention the jersey's shouldn't be ass-ugly.

I wonder if this name selection will conflict with the AAA team in Toronto- the Toronto Marlboros. Perhaps the AAA team will have to change their name.

Read the article. The OHL has no problems with two Marlboros.

What are you talking about? The Marlboros that I'm talking about are not in the OHL. They are in the GTHL.

-EDIT-

Here is the website for the 'AAA' Marlboros - http://www.torontomarlboros.com/ and the GTHL website - http://www.gthlcanada.com

In fact how could the OHL have a problem at all, since it currently has Zero teams called the Marlboros .. The closest it comes is the Toronto St. Mikes .. So an AHL and triple "AAA" team should offend no one ..

I think they may have to buy the rights to "Toronto Marlboros".

Remember when Baltimore had a CFL team ? They called it the Colts. Even though there was no Baltimore Colts in the NFL anymore, the Indianapolis Colts still owned the name "Baltimore Colts" for pro football. They took the CFL team to court, and they weren't allowed to use the name anymore. Hence, they were called the Baltimore "CFLers", then the "Stallions".

The Toronto Marlboros of the OHL moved to Hamilton, and were called the Dukes. After a few years, they became the Guelph Storm. I don't see why the Guelph Storm wouldn't still own the name "Toronto Marlboros" ? Their lawyers are probably looking into this.

Must be the time difference.

The March 1st article date came out 4 hours later for us guys on the west coast, then Frankie in St. Johns who probably read it because his Filet-of-Fish for breakfast was wrapped in it ..

Because had it been old, and known for months... I'm sure the Messenger and I would have known about it.

:lol

I thought the Scarbrough Marlboros would have been great, owell. I'd rather have the logo as a plain Maple Leaf, maybe with Marlies written in it.

Well, of course it is not going to offend anyone. However, the Toronto Marlboros of the Greater Toronto Hockey League are one of the most established and well-known minor hockey teams in the world.

But it all comes down to this- this is a professional franchise coming to Toronto. The GTHL Marlboros can't/won't say a thing. I just feel sorry for the GTHL Marlboros after building up their name to have it taken away... but on the flip side, maybe they won't have to change their name.

I have to ask.
Why would they tell you and mess before leaking it to the media or officially announcing it?
