I've said it like twice in this thread, but I'll say it again.

Paul Effin' Gaustad fetched a first at the trade deadline last season.

That is true.

Does that mean Steckel can obtain a 2nd?

Plek should atleast be worth a 1st. But would a playoff ready team have a hole at 2c? IMO he doesn't suit a 3rd line checking role too well.

Tallinder. No. a younger version in the form of Urbom, sure. We could even move a young PMD type over in the deal

Gionta + Y.Weber + 4th
for
Urbom + 1st

It would depend upon the team. Chicago would love to have Plekanec on the second line, and I have established some trades on HFBoards with some Hawks fans involving Plekanec and a 3rd for Saad, Jimmy Hayes and a 1st. With the cap lowering, though, in the new CBA, the 1st is usually replaced with Hjalmarsson in order to send salary back to Montreal.

There are probably other teams in need as well.

As a mtl fan I would do saad Hayes and a 1 round for plek and 3 round .. But not hjalmarsson !! In a deep draft I need the first round to be there !! Chicago will still have time to send hjalmarsson somewhere this summer anyways ... Team won't think about the cap hit they will think about the Stanley cup and will deal with the cap this summer ...anyways they could always buy a player out to fit under the cap or trade him to a team that will have plenty of space .... It no big deal

Like I said before, we're not trading a first rounder.

Would you take Burlon instead of Urbom?

You can't, really. We're not in a position where we can afford to give up scoring. We're doing the scoring-by-committee thing and just barely have enough to get by with that plan; if someone in the current setup goes down with an injury for too long we're horribly screwed.

Moore is a little more feasible, but we'd probably be looking for someone younger (i.e. more of a longer-term team member) than Cole if we were going to trade him.

Goloubef is obviously not enough by himself.

We have prospects already similar to Burlon. Urbom offers something a little different but NHL ready.Gio+Weber+ 5th
for
Urbom+2nd

I'd look long and hard at this honestly. Best proposal ITT yet IMHO.

Because by the time we contend, he'll be into his mid 30s. We might as well cash in on him to help that process. We have Eller and possibly Galchenyuk being able to jump in soon.

If Galchenyuk is ready to go..... And Plekanec is out there for trade bait..... I would like the Habs to get young NHL ready players.

Vancouver seems like they could be interested in that. Being tight against the cap though, I don't think they would be able to make a deal unless Luongo heads out.

If not cap wise, they would have to take a look at maybe Hansen + Raymond + Kassian to make it close to the cap and get their #2 center but take them depth off the 3rd line, which I don't know if they would be ready to do that.

I wouldn't give up more than a 3rd and a prospect for Gionta, maybe a 2nd straight up. Past deals don't guarantee you're going to get what you want and Gionta is an undersized forward on the downside of his career who btw, doesn't get his goals by sniping, he's better known for going to the dirty areas. Too much of an injury risk.

What about Plekanec 2nd calgary or our 2nd the best pcik between the two. this year for Sharp?

i think it would satisfy both team needs plus they are roughly the same age. Habs need winger like Sharp and Chicago needs a 2nd center.

I wouldn't mind seeing Brian Gionta on Sid's wing...

What is MTL looking for exactly?

Keep Plekanec, centers are hard to develop and chances are teams won't give up enough for him. He's only 30 so he's still young enough to play with the current core + Galchenyuk/high pick in 2013. He's a player that I think should only be dealt if a team is serious with an offer.

The rest, trade away. Almost a must.

Markov right now has a very low trade value, because of his injuries, and I doubt if he would even go for a 2nd. Same with Gio.

I'd be interested in plekanec, but our first will probably be higher than i'd want to give up

Just for the sake of checking it out... could you imagine if the Devils pulled off those trades?

Kovalchuk-Zajac-Gionta
Elias-Plekanec-Henrique
Zubrus-Josefson-Clarkson
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

That is a cup winning lineup right there.

Only in the minds of Habs fans who have no clue about the value of a proven veteran leader who can score 25+ goals on a regular basis...sigh...

Why? If you leave out Gagner, you're left with Paararjvi and a 2nd. I'd make that deal, I think Paarajrvi and Eller would likely be good together.

Okay, so Vancouver has a pressing need for forwards. If Montreal were to sell, I have to imagine Plekanec, Gionta and Cole all would cross the radar now. Plekanec being the obvious chase. Might just do Kassian+ and certainly would move Gaunce+1st.
