If the Devils plan on dressing Butler and Gomez on the second line, there's really no point in watching them play this season.

Based on what? Nobody is saying he is a 1st line center.

Last season the odds of Sykora getting 21g and 23a were tiny. I think the odds are much greater that of Gomez getting 50+ points this year.

Worse case he doesn't perform - Adam takes over as the 2nd line center and Gomez is cut. Best case he performs - Adam becomes a 1st line or 2nd line winger or 3rd line Center if(when) Yayo gets hurt.

How can you be so sure this will happen?

Why would the team "turn on him" of we signed him? IF Lou thinks the low risk route (and there is a likely shot he won't) than I can assure you he has every intention of trying to make it work. Gomez still is a very good defensive forward and I think he might work well in DeBoers system. This is all hypothetical. I doubt Lou has the same mindset I do, but there really is no risk in bringing him here. I don't think he is a train wreck. I just think he needs a start over and a change in scenery. He won Cups with us and played his best hockey with us. It was his tenure in jersey that got him the big pay day as ridiculous as the contract was.

The reports have all said Gomez was fine the locker room. If you were a MTL fan how would to treat Gomez knowing that you pay him 7.5 million and traded McDonagh to get him?

The guy is clearly undervalued and is exactly the type of players you want to sign.

Its never a bad problem having options. It also opens the door for more trade assets come April 1 or earlier. Id rather have to many options than not enough.

They augmented the CBA by allowing one accelerated buyout of any contract over 3 mil dollars. Seems as if both the players and owners wanted this. The entire salary in full must be paid, it counts against the cap this year but is off the books next and counts as one of the allotted buyouts. Really doesnt help the clubs as the salaries count anyways but it does give them a safe guard against these players, many of them older, against getting injured and then not being eligible to be bought out during the summer. Plus many clubs to avoid this were going to send this players home and not have them play so both sides agreed to this. Funny thing is if Redden or Gomez signed somewhere else they will collect fully on both contracts. Sometimes its nice to suck.

As far as any bad locker room presence or negative distraction I think with Gomez its actually the opposite. Heck Lou signed Darren Langdon pretty much to play 8 minutes and the rest of the time be a locker room personality. Even if Gomez didn't play and was a reserve forward for the low cap hit it will take to get him here just to have him around and his smiling face it might actually be a good thing.

My opinion and reality are two different things. In the end he will probably get a 1 year deal with the Islanders, lol.

fair enough. but if you're looking for hilarity, check last year's offseason when people were pondering if we should sign sykora.

The real question here is this:

Is Gomez willing to drive the bus?

So I guess he really didn't wanna come back bad enough or Lou never considered him, nor inquired about him in the first place.

$800k is a good price too.

Great signing by them. Not everyday you can sign a 50+ pts 2nd line center. Should be interesting playing with Selanne.

Can confirm multiple reports that Devils are among teams that have expressed interest in Gomez. Don't know how serious that interest is.

And, if he really is looking at the 800K ballpark, the Devils better be in on that.

Sorry CB... I even tried to change to UNCONFIRMED after I realized I'd been had. Won't happen again.
