Maybe so... but our forward depth is garbage and the addition of Gomez, for less then a million, would be a solid move.

Redden played in the AHL for the past 2, 3 or 4 seasons? Can't really compare the two IMO.

I would bet he goes over 50 points if he played a full year with Elias (82 games).

I'm willing to say that if he were to sign for something like 800K, he'd be the most "productive" player in the entire NHL... meaning $$$ Vs production.

I saw his stats. They still show blatant regression. Nothing you just posted disproves that.

Being 2nd or 5th in points on garbage teams isn't an accomplishments. If he is such a capable player, why did Montreal pay him 7.5M to play with the 4th line?

Chicago currently not in the mix for Gomez. Dave Bolland will continue to get opportunity to expand role offensively.

No rose for Chicago

I am guessing MTL wanted Desharnais and Eller to develop since they are rebuilding?

You understand Elias had 62 pts and Kovy had 60 pts for a full year when we just miss the playoffs? Did that show blatant regression? Weren't they able bounce back to their norms last year?

I'd say that he has more value then Sykora, despite what the stat sheet might say.
Who's comparing him with Sykora? It is ironic that after all the kvetching over our not signing him Sykora's still a FA but that isn't really relevant to whether Gomez has declined beyond repair or whether he would help or not. I'm not at all convinced he'll help, but I do think he's better than what we currently have so I'd like to see him get a shot on a one-year deal.

You understand there is a difference between regression and a bad year?

Gomez has gotten worse periodically for 5 years. Elias and Kovy had one off year.

Admittedly never paid attention to any of the lists of teams in the running, mostly because they either all included the Devils, or because I figured we were most in it if we weren't being talked about. But I would take it those few with maybe a couple of others. I think some threw around the Islanders too?

Technically, 26 other teams haven't been 'ruled out' yet. Anaheim, Chicago and Phoenix have and he's obviously not re-signing with Montreal. This is like the draft lottery, eventually every team's logo will come up until the final selection.

Well players who get older do regress. I won't bet Gomez would put up 70+ points with us. I think Gomez only had 1 bad year - 2 years ago. He was a #1 center for the Rangers those 2 years and was solid his 1st year with a bad MTL team. Last year was a mess due to injuries and playing with 4th liners.

I think Gomez is still a quality 2nd liner in the NHL. And I hope my team picks him up.

And do you understand that's why he was waived, he is FA an will get a minimal one year deal. Because he has regressed. Any Devils fan supporting the idea of Gomez on a 1 year deal is suggesting that because of his regression.

People are still arguing this like Gomez supporters want him for 5/25. Nobody is saying this.

I'll say it again. There is absolutely.. Positively... NO Risk, ZERO in signing him for a year at under a million.

There's no risk in signing me to a 500k contract either.

Oh ****, a player who has gotten worse every year since 2007 is available? Let's get him. It'll be cheap!

If Lou jinks he can help the team he will go that direction. The one team he played exceedingly well for was the Devils the organization he was drafted by and understands. He is a good personality. If I would've told you before last season Sykora would make a good signing as a low risk 1 year deal would you have agreed?

It is likely Gomez can put up 50+ pts over a full season on the 2nd line. If not you cut him when Adam gets back.

It isn't impossible to think a player might get better and recapture some form though is it?

Even 5 goals and 35 assists for 40 points is worth 800k.

Throw him between Elias and Clarkson for 10-15 games and let it ride. If he sucks so long. We can all waive goodbye to him and let the door hit him on the way out.

Actually for 800k we don't even have to waive him with our space on a 1 year deal unles we need the roster spot. Darren Langdon was a locker room personality and a character guy Lou liked having around and he played all of 8 minutes for minimal salary. Gomez is a character and stand up guy. And he is liked by his teammates wherever he plays. That reason alone especially for the Devils I entertain the idea of bringing him back. I could care less if Janssen proves to be more worthy on the ice.

Sykora was brought in as a training camp invite and I was skeptical of it until he played well in the preseason.

Gomez was in the NHL last year and has done nothing bet get worse.
