Can The Sharks Can Win The Cup!

This is what it will take for the Sharks to win the Cup this year.
I am going to gauge a few players performances this year vs their potential. If these players step up and play to a fraction of their capabilities the Sharks are Stanley Cup contenders without a doubt.

This Season

Marleau - 50%
Thornton - 50%
Havlat - 20%

Playoffs
Marleau 75%
Thornton 75%
Havlat 75%

If these 3 players play can increase their on ice performance to the levels Iíve set out the Sharks can win the Cup. Other things obviously lead to a Cup as I've said many times before. A Hot Goalie, Luck & Opportune Opponents.

With that said, I say the Sharks CAN win the Cup.

What say you?

Fasho.

With Nemo at the top of his game and three solid scoring lines, I feel pretty confident. Of course, that's after blowing out the Wild, but I feel good about this post-deadline team.

Here comes the 4 game losing streak and barely hanging on to 8th and getting swept by the Hawks in the 1st round. Way to go.

I feel like right now Niemi's play is really what makes me so confident. Watching the games I just feel so confident in his play, and obviously the team does too and it's rubbing off a bit.

I totally agree with the %'s listed by OP. With those listed players playing better than they have been going into the Playoffs, the only team I really fear is a fresh CHI (they're resting players now and if they sweep or win in 5 round 1 that will be dangerous) and possibly Van. Van matches up well down the middle and would be a grindfest - but overall I think we'd win in a long series.

As long as we don't lose to the Ducks.

Here is the guy that thinks I didn't think of that and forgot to put a double-helix anti-mojo spell on the whole thing before I posted

I honestly think any team who makes it, can win. I know I sound like Tim McCarver.

Honestly, I'm just happy the Sharks are playing faster and more exciting. That losing stretch was unbearable not just because they were losing but they played slow and boring as hell. But the Sharks are 11-3(should be 12-2 if they didn't blow Dallas game) since they traded Murray. The only game where they didn't show up was the Columbus game which I thankfully missed.

I think we can if we keep playing like we are or at least make it to the finals. Gotta keep on bringing it every night.

If they keep up this style of play yes. Great D, great goaltending, great PK is where it starts and this is one of the best sharks teams as far as the combo of those 3. Add in 4 solid lines that can score and you have a recipe for a deep playoff run. THey can't have too many injuries though. That's always the biggest thing to derail a stanley cup parade.

I feel your ambivalence. I'm gonna guess SJeasy is going to disagree regardless of the obvious reality that almost any team that makes the PO's CAN win.

There's always a chance. I cling to that ****.

Well tonight kind of pushes me towards the feeling they have a chance too but i'm not going to get ahead of myself. Put it this way..last year I never felt good about their chances in the playoffs due to a lack of speed and the pk and they played very east/west. This year they play a hard north/south game (post deadline), great pk/goal tending and a much faster team. That type of game translates better to the playoffs. So I feel better than last year.

A few weeks back I was ready to see this team trade off everyone (except Pavelski, Couture and Niemi), but they've suddenly become a much better team after trading Murray, Handzus and Clowe. Plus Nemo has been absolutely amazing and looking like a true Vezina candidate. I was confident they could make the playoffs, but I thought as always we'd be another first round and gone team, but I am starting to believe we could be a true cup contender. I feel we need to get the 4th seed however because we have been fantastic at home!

It's amazing we are only 5 points behind the Ducks!

but people will look at this as a paper season esp. Kings and Duck fans. If in the odds of odds the Sharks win the cup this year, I'll never hear the end of it down here in So Cal that it wasn't a real season. and that the ducks won it first (which is a tired argument already).

I think this team can beat the Kings in 6 but man not so sure with Chicago. or Pittsburgh for that matter.

One word...regular season.

Also, Thorton = tin man and No Show Marleau

The team has a chance when they play like they do at home. The issue is translating it on the road and even with this recent string of games, mostly at home, they've had a problem bringing it on the road and that's going to make it tough on them in the playoffs when chances are they're going to be the lower seed. We'll see.

Can they? Of course they CAN. There is too much luck in winning the Stanley Cup to rule anything out. Will they? I think it's unlikely, but the odds are a lot better post system adjustments. The Sharks seem to be hot at the right time this year (finally) and if they can go into the playoffs with this momentum... well that's how cups are won.

I think the two wild cards are:

1) Will Nemo keep up his play. We've seen him be really inconsistent in the playoffs before, but this year he really seems to have improved and gained an entire new level of consistency. He also has a lot less games under his belt because of this shortened season so should have less fatigue.

2) Special teams. This seems to be our biggest problem. Whether we have a top-5 pp or PK going into the playoffs, they tend to absolutely crap the bed come playoffs. If the Sharks can, for once, maintain their special teams play I think it could really give them an edge.
