Yeah it sucks, but while hes off the ice he's been working with the front office scouting players, making recommendations, etc.
As long as he has a healthy life then its a win for him no matter how he went out.
For the unawares, Giroux has essentially been the de facto captain of the team the past year since Pronger went down. Pretty much everyone, players, media and front office, have been saying that it's his team and he's the leader.
