I have little faith in Reimer and you'll never convince me that someone with a glove stance like Scrivens is starting NHL goalie material. Two backups that's what we have, and management knows it.
He's expendable in the right deal, sure. I'm just not sure if Bernier is that deal. I don't know him well enough to make a strong opinion on him - he's just all potential, which is great - but I've seen that story before with Leaf goaltenders. But his size worries me, and the fact this team would seemingly have to bend over backwards to get him doesn't excite me either. It comes down to price at the end of the day, and the fact MacArthur is a UFA eases the pain, but I'd still be hesitant. What you think 'management knows' will come out in the deals they make (or don't).

If they believe Reimer is the guy, then get him a veteran back-up for support.
If they don't think Reimer is the guy, then get a goalie with enough experience that we know he is an upgrade.
I know Quick is elite, but he never really had a "vet" tendy showing him the ropes in the NHL. His rookie year, he had Ersberg and Labarbera platooning as his back ups. The last 3 years, it's been Bernier. I know Reimer played a lot better with Giggy, but I think that theory is flawed.

For
Bernier, Clifford

So no.

Clarke Macarthur will not do.
A 20 goal/50 point winger is not enough for an unproven backup goaltender that was drafted 7 years ago?

Typical.

This makes a lot more sense, than a Luongo deal, given the Contract and what Vancouver wants in return for him.

Bernier may be a good fit here and we have a lot of extra players, to trade, 11 Defencemen in camp and a lot of extra Forwards too.

Once again I see no point. Bernier is a minuscule upgrade over R&S at best.

*CORRECTION*

A 20 goal/50 point winger on a last placed team

Clearly leaked by the leafs to get Gillis to quit playing hardball. If Gillis thinks the leafs have other options he very well could go for a lesser offer.

Problem is, we got too many guys that are Okay, but not good enough for their positions on any playoff teams. Like MacArthur and Bozak. Kulemin isn't a top 6 guy, but at least he can play 3rd line. Brown is barely an NHLer. Reimer is maybe a backup, Scrivens probably not. So bring another young goalie with an upside, let's see what we got. Problem is- short season, easy to fool people.

For a small goalie, that barely had a .900 save percentage on a Stanley Cup team. Two can play the same rhetorical game.

There has been several rumours that LA is looking to move Carter, in order to manage Cap room for next year, and that would be a major positive move for us, depending on cost.

I don't think we can afford the package they would be asking for in terms of Carter, at this point.

It would solve one issue, but would probably open up a hole in young emerging talent, ready to take over at the NHL level.

I wouldn't be against it he's young and cheap and we aren't tied to him forever. Deciding who to give up is my problem. I certainly don't want to give a pick, even a third because we may need it if we ever get the balls to tender a contract to an RFA.

I think he is a UFA at the end of the season. He has no track record to speak of, and he will walk away from them at the end of the contract, as Quick cemented himself at the #1 forever. Bernier has very little value. Him for Mac, I'd consider a "wash".

In the 2 years that Mac has been here, the Leafs finished 22nd and 25th, and he was a consistent offensive threat. How is that relevant?

Is the value of a player diminished because of his team's ranking?

What about the Oilers or the Islanders? Should their players hold less value on the trade market as well regardless of their individual accomplishments?

Mac was given an opportunity here and he ran with it. He proved he can put up points with decent linemates and increased ice time.

Your argument has no validity whatsoever.

I'd like to see Bernier/Reimer duke it out for #1.... but don't overpay.

It doesn't make us better today, but perhaps in the future.

Difference between Reimer and Bernier.

Reimer- terrible glove hand, worst recovery starting goaltender in the league. Terrible positioning.

Bernier- has all the talent in the world and has not been given a chance.

The choice is obvious, the question is how much we give up. If Bozak is the best peice we're giving up, I don't think you hesitate.

By far, the worst excuse in all of HF Boards. And that's saying something...

Like scoring is any easier on a weaker team or any one player is the direct result of where a team finishes.

Give your head a shake.

I realize this might not be fair to say because Bernier played behind Jonathin Quick, but he still has less total games played then James Reimer. Plus the Leafs need a Goaltender with more experience. With the exception of when they traded for JS Giguere their other two Goalie trades was for Andrew Raycroft and Vesa Toskala. We all know how they played in Toronto and I don't want to go through that again with Bernier. Plus last summer when we heard the talk of Bernier coming to Toronto I heard that Dean Lombardi was asking for a 1st round pick in return for him. If anything I say the value was set when Tampa Bay traded for Andres Lindback.
