He is. I think he's more making the statement we'd be lucky to get either at the rate we keep going up the standings.

What pick did Philadelphia choose Couturier with, 8? He was projected to go earlier, no.

Dougie Hamilton at 9.

It's very likely at least 1 team will pick a guy not in the consensus top 7. I think we will still end up with one of the top guys...

And hell we can still lose our final games and win the lottery.

Very true and that team will be the Calgary Flames.

we're not. edmonton will make the playoffs before we do, but at the same time we don't need to finish in the bottom 2 for 3 years to build a team.
1 person said it and it's someone I have never seen here before so I am not even sure he is a Flames fan.

good points. We currently sit with the 7th pick. In the past 5 years the following players have been taken 8th to 10th.

2012: Derrick Pouliot, Jacob Trouba, Slater Koekkoek
2011: Sean Couturier, Dougie Hamilton, Jonas Brodin
2010: Alex Burmistrov, Mikael Granlund, Dylan McIlrath
2009: Scott Glennie, Jared Cowen, Magnus Paajarvi
2008: Mikkael Boedker, Josh Bailey, Cody Hodgson

It depends how defenseman are valued in this draft. If like last year they are valued high like last year. They will be taken earlier. Like H.Lindholm and D. Pouliot.

Well looking at that gives me some hope. I think Glennie is the only real bust so far out of that and he's still got time. I still think the 2011 draft will be remembered as a strong one.

I have a bad feeling we will pick something out of left field. I don't just say that because of Janko last year.

I think Lindholm is going to come off the board and we will make a reach pick.

I could also see this. If we pick 10th we may go off the board

You have to think at least 2-3 dman will likely go in the top 10. Look at how many dman went last year. Last season we saw TT, Grigorenko, and Forsberg all fall dramatically. The odds of us drafting a good player at #7 or 8 are quite good. I personally think Lindholm or Monahan will be available there.

Hagg was on the ice today for 4 of Canads goals today and he showed little to no effort. He watched Macdavid walk around him on his third goal (no not the one he banked off the net) though he got beat on that one too. Really a low effort job based on that game, small sample size.

Depending on where we draft, I could see them making a reach at Alex Wennberg... He has top-line potential.

Being a Londoner, I've seen a ton of Domi this year. Considering we have 3 first rounders I hope Calgary is looking to use one to pick him up.

Going to need another year with the Knights for sure, but this kid works hard and has a boatload of skill. Absolute fan favourite.

I do as well. We don't know what management thinks of Monahan though...

If Feaster takes Wennberg with a top 8 pick he should be fired.

Idiotic response - actual Calgary fans know that drafting has very little to do with Feaster other than the words coming out of his mouth, put their by his scouting team and Weisbrod. In other words, scouting team should face ramifications of a bad draft.

Unless a GM iron-fists his way through a draft without any other input, the scouting department should be blamed in any organization with a poor prospect pool.

GM hired the scouts... its ultimately his call who we pick, who scouts the players, who we trade for etc.

If we reach down and pick some player off the board then Feaster will look like a bigger idiot than he already does (see laughing stock of the NHL).

I would be REALLY upset if we drafted Wennberg with a top 7-8 pick.

Shinkaruk will likely go top ten. If he played Center or was a few inches taller he'd be top ten.

Where on earth have you heard Klimchuk top 5?

But would you really be surprised if Weisbrod/Feaster did that?

Yeah, I would honestly. Clearly the organization realizes the importance of a high draft pick, so I really doubt they risk that by taking a gamble with a lesser player.

We have three picks in the first round; they can go off the board with the later picks.
