To Victoria: 4th rounder
To Calgary: Jesse Zgraggen
To Lethbridge: Josh Derko, 3rd rounder
To Swift Current: Jay Merkley
What a terrible trade for Lethbridge. Don't know much about Derko, but from what I've heard he's just a bottom 6 grinder. While the 'Canes needed size upfront and that type of player, definitely not at the expense of a core player like Merkley, who is a former 3rd overall pick. Really like his game and he has big potential going forward. Very tough to see him go in a trade like this.
That is a good deal for Edmonton, he was really solid player for Vancouver.
It's a good deal for both teams. The price for Ferland is too high, and Cheek is a nice secondary scorer that will fit in perfectly with the Oil Kings. The Giants get another second round pick (that now gives them four second round picks for the 2013 draft) for a player they acquired about four months ago for a fourth and fifth round pick. That is a very good return.
Think I heard the 'Canes have 14 picks or something ridiculous like that for this upcoming draft. Hopefully they can move a few of those for some immediate help.
The Canes have 13 picks for the upcoming draft. Actually maybe 12 now after the trade for Simpson.
Did you count the 3rd rounder they received in the Merkley trade? Which would have made it 14, but currently 13 after the Simpson trade. Still, thats alot of picks and for a team thats very young and loaded with prospects, they can definitely afford to move some of them.

Good call. So yes, that would make it 13 unofficially of course. I could be wrong, but that is the number I have. Either way that is a ton of a picks. If the Canes do want to acquire some depth or experience they should be able to do so without much of a problem.
Not so fast. Sounds like something may have happened between the Blades and Wheat Kings. Just waiting for some sort of announcement. Seems like Kambeitz may be the odd man out in Saskatoon.
