The more I look at the potential next year's roster:

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Thomas Vanek ($7.143m) / Cody Hodgson ($3.500m) / Drew Stafford ($4.000m)
Marcus Foligno ($0.900m) / Tyler Ennis ($2.813m) / Jason Pominville ($5.300m)
Steve Ott ($2.950m) / Mikhail Grigorenko ($1.775m) / Patrick Kaleta ($1.250m)
Nathan Gerbe ($1.450m) / Cody McCormick ($1.200m) /
Corey Tropp ($0.700m) / John Scott ($0.600m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Andrej Sekera ($2.750m) / Tyler Myers ($5.500m)
Alexander Sulzer ($1.250m) / Christian Ehrhoff ($4.000m)
Mark Pysyk ($0.870m)
GOALTENDERS
Ryan Miller ($6.250m)
Connor Knapp ($0.700m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $54,050,357; BONUSES: $955,000
CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $11,204,643

I've taken a few liberties, Re-upped Hodgson to a 3 year, 11.5 million deal, re-upped Sulzer at a bit higher rate.

I guess its a bit premature to look at this offseason at this point, but I see alot of cap space available and only a few holes to fill. 11 million for 2 players, essentially. If we move Vanek on (which isn't a bad move at this point, given the stable of good forward prospects+ needs elsewhere), we have even more. I expect us to take a run at least 1 of the big names out there, whether its Perry, Getzlaf, Iginla, or Morrow

Also, Weber's status in Nashville intrigues me. No NTC and he's owed the majority of his salary in Signing bonus over the next 5 seasons, which makes it immune to escrow. He's available for trade I *believe* 1 year after the Match of his offersheet. I doubt they will move him to Philly out of spite at this point. A top 4 of:

Ehrhoff-Weber
Sekera-Myers

Would be quite good.

1) I assume you amnestied Leino?

2) Knapp over Enroth? That's really being optimistic...I assume you moved Enroth somewhere (for what?), but Knapp at the NHL level next year is really pushing it. It's either gotta be Enroth or a vet backup, which will add ~300-500K.

3) It's actually 3 players since you'll want a #7 D...though an ELC (Armia? McNabb if he gets his head out of his ass? Brennan/M.Weber would be cheap re-signs) can take care of the extra slot.

Thirded... O'Reilly for Ennis makes us a better team. Fixes our face-off problems and gives us an up and coming 2-way center(we dont have one) I have my doubts COL would be interested in that deal tho.

After paying that huge bonus out to him I just cant see them trading Weber any time soon.

1) Amnesty Buyout for Leino, yes
2) Enroth isn't going to hangout to be a backup for much longer. My guess is filling one of those two slots is likely via trade. There are more than a few teams who could use Enroth (the 3rd is a simple 7th d-man...lots of options internally)
3) I'm slotting Armia for Rochester next year unless we do move Vanek. Then there is a slot for one of Arimia/Girgensons

The issue for Weber/Nashville is that the bonuses just don't stop there.

http://capgeek.com/player/1042

Since his salary is so bonus heavy, it's protected from Escrow, thus that is real dollars...something that is far too rich for the Predators blood.

I have no doubt, that Colorado would have no interest what so ever in that deal. Smart hockey people know what real value is.

Ya your right. They did a good job helping St. Louis build a contender

Vanek-Hodgson-Pominville
Foligno-Ennis-Stafford
Ott-Grigorenko-Armia
Gerbe-?-Kaleta
Tropp

?-Myers
Ehrhoff-Sulzer
Regehr-Sekera
Weber

Miller
Enroth

Trade Leopold at the deadline
Buyout Leino
Re-sign Regehr (hopefully cheaper)
Trade Brennan?

I think there is a big need to find a solid partner for Myers if McNabb doesn't turn it around.

I am also not opposed to solidifying the #2/#3 center spot by trading some assets. We need to improve at faceoffs so our possession time increases

We need a defenceman with McNabb"s size who is MOBILE and can clear the crease. He does not need to 20 points nor beat up Colton Orr. But he must handle first line wingers one on one, be strong on the cycle, and have the strength and smarts to move out players trying to jam the crease. We will need to draft that player because I do not see getting one in a trade or free agency that we can afford if available.

We basically need Regehr of 5 years ago.

We also badly need a defensive center thats strong on the draw.

Not only that. I think we just need SOMEBODY who can win faceoffs. Cody Hodgson is 22% in the last two games. This is where we miss Gaustad.

You really have been advocating hard for Vanek's trade.I think it's asinine.A forward who averages 68 points a year and has 25+ goals every single season are extremely hard to find.Vanek needs to be re-signed.And the odds of us signing a Perry,Getzlaf,Iginla etc are slim to none. Those are premier UFAs and want to go to winners/big cities. With the new CBA our advantage with Pegula's deep pockets are pretty much negated.Vanek and Pominville are our only two legit 1st line players.Vanek is a top 8 if not top 5 LW.Pominville is a top 10 RW.We need to add a proven 1st line caliber player, not trade 1 of the 2 we have.

He should be a Sabre for Life and will possibly break all of Gil's record. For sure the goal one he will break if he plays here his whole career. He was the 5th pick in probably the best draft in NHL history. He will most likely end up with 500+ goals and 1,000+ points for his career. If he ends up winning a cup or two he becomes a possible HoF candidate, as far fetched as that sounds. There are cup less players with less goals and points in the Hall then what Vanek is projected to finish with.

Jerred Smithson for the 4th line anyone? He can win a faceoff, only 800k and UFA at seasons end. No idea what he'd cost.

If the O'Reilly deal happened, they could flip Ennis for defensive help. Not sure I could sign off on trading Myers, though. That'd be tough, even with his struggles in mind.
