Stephen Weiss

If Florida was to trade Stephen Weiss, him being on the last year of his contract going UFA next year, what is a realistic value for him?

Thanks

I expect him to re-sign sometime this season.

I'd rather a roster player than a draft pick, it's easy to say we could get a decent first rounder for Weiss, but that doesn't help the fact that we would literally have no first line center, we technically don't even have a first line center in Weiss as it is. I can't really see Weiss being moved unless he says he is not going to re-sign with Florida at the end of the season. If he is moved for a draft pick we would have to either trade for a 1st line center or get one through free agency.

If Berglund doesn't show he is ready to be a 2nd line center on a contender, then I could see the Blues interested in Weiss.

What would the Blues have to offer us though? Is Perron available?

I wouldn't move Perron for Weiss even if he wasn't a rental. Off the roster we could offer players like Berglund, Stewart, D'Agostini, and prospect wise, Tarasenko and Schwartz would definitely be off the table.

That's the problem. A contender isn't going to give you a good player.

1st+prospect.

How about Bouwmeester back to the Panthers? He could return to form...

deadline day is when teams look for proven players for a playoff drive and with only 7 games in 11 years--I do not see a team coughing up a first for him.

The playoffs you need grit and experience. While Weiss is a good guy to have, I do not see him being the player to take a team to the next level.

2013 draft is reportedly deep and teams will be asking a lot for them

I think Chicago would be very interested, but I doubt they'd wait until the trade deadline if they feel they need a 2nd line centre and I doubt Florida wants to move Weiss before seeing how their team performs, if they want to move him at all.

If I'm Florida and I'm out of the PO picture on 04/05/13 I move Wiess for a 1st (and he will get a 1st at the min.) and then look to re-sign him in the summber the way the Blues did it with Keith Tkachuk.

win win

I wouldn't bet the house on it.

You've gotta be kidding me. No matter the strength of the draft, a 1st at the very least is the standard for a player like Weiss. His lack of playoff experience, well that's the acquiring team's gamble. If the Panthers put Weiss on the market there will be no shortage of teams bidding for him, he will get at least a 1st but probably more. Gaustad got a 1st last season. Weiss is a great 2nd line center who plays defense and has leadership ability.

weiss does not have the stats and experience that would lead to getting a first rounder

And Paul Gaustad did last yr???! If Gaustad can return a 1st, there will be a team willing to give up a 1st if Weiss is on the block. I could see the Panthers though being more interested in a close-to-ready NHL prospect over a 1st though IMO.

Stephen Weiss would, without a doubt, return a 1st round pick. Maybe more

What kind of deal do you think he'd expect for next season?
