From the Eagles website site looks like James Casey might be our 1st signing. Looks like Chip Kelly wants to get those hybrid players for his offense out of the way early this offseason.

Quote:
According to several reports, the Eagles have scheduled a visit with former Texans fullback/tight end James Casey and, in fact, are close to agreeing on a deal.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported that the Eagles are one of 15 teams reaching out to Casey, but that the Philadelphia will be the veteranís first visit. ESPN's Dan Graziano added that the Eagles and Casey are "closing in on a deal."

Casey, 29, was drafted by the Texans in the fifth round of the 2009 draft, and became the teamís starting fullback in 2011. A versatile player, Casey appears to be a great fit in head coach Chip Kellyís new offense. In Houston, Casey also lined up as a receiver and recorded 34 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns last season.

A talented athlete, Casey (6-3, 240) was drafted by Major League Baseball's Chicago White Sox in 2003 and played in the minor leagues for three years before retiring to play football. He attended Rice University, and in 2008 caught 111 passes for 1,329 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also rushed 57 times for 241 yards and six touchdowns that season.

In 2012, Casey was named to USA Todayís All-Joe Team, which shines the spotlight on players who excel despite not being household names.

Chung is a major upgrade over Coleman who was awful. I like the fletcher and Casey signings too. Overall a good first day of free agency for the birds. Didn't break the bank but I feel they really improved the team.

Like the signings so far. Casey is one of my favorite players. He can do just about anything on the field.

Solid professions with advanced stats that indicate that they have performed better than their name might indicate. Chung, Fletcher and Casey don't have name value, but they're the kind of guys you fill in between your All Pros to form a Super Bowl team.

These signings are very Patriot like to me. Let big names walk. Replace with guys who fit your system at a lower cost.

James Casey was a fullback for Houston but apparently a lot of teams around the league thought he was being misused by them and would be better as a tight end. Eagles thought so too since the specifically announced the signing as tight end James Casey. He's a great blocker but he's athletic enough to be a decent pass catching tight end.

Patrick Chung was a starter on the Pats for a couple years, I think he even made a pro bowl if I'm not mistaken but that was more to do with just being on the Patriots. Honestly he's pretty weak in coverage and although he's definitely got a shot at competing for the starting job there's also a good chance he just ends up on special teams.

Don't know much about Fletcher or Phillips.

From what I read, Eagles are going to keep 4-5 TE's on their team. My guess is that they draft one in the draft and sign a practice squad guy all to compete.

Celek, Casey, Harbor, draftkid, practicesquadkid. I really do like the Pats way of using TE's.

Ya, but Troy Vincent, Kearse and Runyan were a big reason why the Eagles were Super Bowl contenders. Granted, the Eagles did a better job drafting back then and had role players already built in, but because Asmougha, Babin and Jenkins didn't work out doesn't mean they should shun big money guys.

Saw Bernard Pollard was cut by the Ravens, any interest? He'd probably be a popular player here because he hits to hurt, but how much was he carried by the eliteness of Ed Reed in coverage? He's already been with three teams and he's only 28.

The Pats defense has been laughable over the past couple of years, but from what I can remember, Chung was one of the few bright spots on the team. I like the signing. He's already an upgrade over Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman IMO. I would still like them to pursue Goldson, but maybe going cheaper is better route.

DRC (doesn't really care) signed with Denver. More addition by subtraction. With DRC, nnamdi, Dunlap, bell, Jenkins, Patterson, and the entire coaching staff gone I give the front office a thumbs up for the offseason so far.

Patrick Chung is a starter on this team. He is easily better than Coleman, Allen, and Anderson.

Hold your thumbs to see what else they do. As it currently stands, our secondary is the worst in the NFL by a far margin.

Talk is the Eagles are "loving" Geno Smith and could even try to move up in the draft to better secure him.

From what I saw of him at WVU, he makes as many bad decisions as Vick...
