Credible writer who is not a rumor monger. Stating what seems to be obvious.

Gaborik to San Jose for Boyle & Clowe...?

So, two of the big three could be gone - Gaborik via trade and Richards bought out. That would open up alot of cap space.

Something like Gaborik + Stralman for Clowe + Boyle?

Other SJ fans have been saying trading Boyle effectively will end any possible Cup runs. Would trading for a slightly older goal scorer with a huge cap hit be a good way to start a rebuild? Or would his extra offense offset the loss of Boyle... I dunno.

Cap space to sign more free agents. Repeat, recycle, repeat with the next crop of UFA's afterwards, and so on and so on and so on.

I think this opens up space to sign McDonagh and the other guys in the near future.

McD > MDZ..he won't take a bridge deal.

40 goal scorers do not grown on trees so as a Ranger fan I am a little scared if they move him. he is not doing great now but he could easily start lighting it up and carry the team into the playoffs.

it is a real tough call because they could use more depth. If it is the right deal and it saves cap space then I think they do seriously have to consider it

fans are throwing out names like Hornqvist, Ellis, Wilson from NSH...............I am thinking Calgary my be a fit with Tanguay, Glencross plus...........most Ranger fans want a 1st rounder back too.

Basically they have to get ALOT to do this

Not completely true.

Cap space to comfortably retain Hags, Stepan and McD this off season even with the 11 million we will have available to us.

The extra cap space will also help us the following summber when we have Lundqvist, Callahan and Girardi all as UFA's and Kreider as an RFA.

That said, I can see how you would come to your conclusion. It does seem to be a NYR trend to overpay for a fading player (see Richards, Brad for the most recent example)

The concern I have is what do they do with the extra 6.6 million in 2014-15 after buying Richards out.

This article oddly reminds me of Gaborik and Lemaire growing tired of each other as it now seems the same is happening between Gaborik and Tortorella.

I'm not sure Gaborik is all that easy to trade. He's got a $7.5M cap hit for next year and the usual suspects will be feeling the cap squeeze next year with the cap coming down to $64M.

I'm sure you could find someone who wants him but at a return Rangers would want? I'm not convinced.

They do. The problem is Nash and Callahan are RWers. So is Gaborik. None of them look good on the left-side.

IMO they should move Gaborik and recoup some young pieces as Torts prefers Callahan and Nash to Gabroik at this point.

get two players that Tortorella will love... well, as much as he's capable to "love".

To Flames
Healtey
Boyle
minny 3rd

in a sane world, would make sense to maximize the pick/prospect return for trading Iginla... but CGY's ownership repeatedly shows they prefer to focus on "now" vs building for the future. Heatley has ties to CGY & Boyle gives them the big-body/physical type player they prefer.

win-win-sorta win?

Calgary will probably take him but he's a great fit in Pittsburgh where he'll be money on Sid's of Malkin's wing.

The cap hit may be a problem though and would shy Pittsburgh away as they need to get Letang signed.

Pass. I can't see the Pens wanting to use that kind of cap space on Gaborik, particularly taking into account that it would help the Rangers to do so. Pretty sure it wouldn't affect re-signing Letang or Malkin though bc unless I'm remembering wrong Gaborik's contract is up after next season.

Why would we trade him to a division rival? Especially one who we're struggling against to begin with?

NYR shouldn't expect a huge return for Gaborik - taking on that salary with a smaller cap next season is a pill to swallow. Could see him moved for an everyday player and a pick.

If we disguise Greening as Clowe, would you fall for that?
