Stafford, Ellerby and Weiss are players who are most likely to be moved from those two teams.

Ellerby is the type of player I could see the Avs target.

Meh, maybe the Avs are still wanting to role the 3 strong scoring lines and want Weiss?

I would do Weiss+ for Oreilly. I'd love to add Weiss on this team, and if we could do it without giving up ROR that'd be insane.

Gerbe would be decent too. We could use a speedy guy like that with the lacking speed we already have.

I was thinking the same thing watching the game earlier. He looked pretty good out there. I think he's a bit like Kulikov right now. Lots of potential but still a ways to reach the potential.

Kulikov. Myers.

Or most likely, no one we would expect.

I don't know much about Ellerby, care to elaborate on him? Or could anyone give some info?

Scouts being at a game is perfectly normal and doesn't mean anything. They are pro scouts. They go to games.

I guess scouting teams that are off to a slow start such as Buffalo and Florida makes more sense since they are more likely to trade players.

I work with his Uncle, so I know a lot about him. He has spent the last 3 years mostly in the minors. But when he did play in the NHL I thought he was really timid. He played scared. He would basically get benched or sent back down if he made mistakes and didn't look comfortable. This season he has been more comfortable. He is a big body, and skates very well. He makes a good first pass. This season he has started to assert himself more, and play a more physical style. He has also picked his spots better. He still has a ways to go to reach his potential, but he is much improved this season. His hockey IQ has always been in question.

Kulikov was drafted a year after Ellerby and had an immediate impact. So he kind of stole his spot.

Because he hasn't lived up to his expectations, and could possibly be had for reasonably cheap, I could see the Avs taking a flyer on him.

edit - After Florida took the lead in the 3rd today, Ellerby didn't get another shift. So the coach doesn't think he is dependable enough to keep a lead.

Not when we aren't playing those teams at all this season.

Anyone think it could be for Bryan Little?

There were only four games today, all in the east.

Our scouts probably watch every team in the league several times a season. There were scouts from 18 teams at this game. It doesn't mean anything.

Well they must be evaluating someone on those teams because the only time they'd play one of them would be if they made it to the finals.

Myers is interesting given his vast potential, but its worrisome how many Buffalo fans have soured on him to the point they're willing to trade him. They say he's been tried with Regehr, Leopold and pretty much everyone else but has gotten progressively worse each year after his rookie season, and after Tallinder left.

Plus he's a righty so he's unlikely to play with EJ, and the Avs don't have a lot of great options on the left to be a quality anchor for him. Zanon's decent but couldn't help cover for Barrie, and I doubt he'd help too much if Myers struggles here.

Not sure how I'd feel if they traded O'Reilly Myers. I'd probably be excited but worried.

Pro scouts scout players more than teams. They don't go to matches to figure out how we should play teams. That's what video coaches do.

Most likely Avs have a 'book' on loads of players and pro scouts go and see them live several times a year. It doesn't mean we're scouting someone specific because we will trade for him.

If the Panthers really are looking to move Weiss the Avs could make good trading partners. Kulikov for ROR may be a possibility.

And that's the kind of trade they'd make...one where we are left asking, "Did we win this trade???" or, "Really? They traded ROR for _____?" You know, the kind of trade where it'll be 2 or 3 years before we can see if we won/lost/tied the trade.

Having Erik Johnson and Tyler Myers anchoring their own defensive pairings for the next five years would be amazing.

Myers would be excellent next to EJ if he could play the left side. Imagine being taught by EJ how to use your size effectively?

Ah dreams...

I was perusing the Oiler forum, and they were suggesting Hemsky+ for Wilson.

The problem with Myers is that we would have two solid RH defencemen, and 0 LH. If ROR was going for Myers, that is pretty much the only trade chip that could land a LH top-pairing defenceman. Not to mention the amount of risk involved on a guy like him.
