Saturday? US viewers get Friday practice on Thursday night at 9:00pm 007! We also get live first round qualifying and tape delayed 2nd round right before the race. But yah, I'm pretty damn excited.

I'm sure you'll get some Villeneuve fans chiming in over in the lounge.

Noted! I'll have to tape it, I suppose, but thanks for the heads-up. I'm not too excited about the new qualifying format, it just sounds like it'll be a mess.

Let me know if you want me to tape it for you Xander. I can probably fit both qualifying sessions, pre-race and the race on a tape if set it to "extended play".

You see any of last night's practice 007? McLaren was red hot. De Le Rosa ran a full race distance over both sessions and Raikonnen ended up only 3 tenths behind.

Yeah, I watched it. It was great to get to watch the cars on the track again! I agree, McLaren looked great, the car looks very stable, but I'll wait 'till qualifying before I pass judgment. Perhaps with the new rules, practice will be more indicative of actual pace this year, though.

I was also impressed that Heidfeld came 3rd on the timesheets: that I really didn't expect. I suspect that Mark Webber was running one set of tyres and Heidfeld another.

oh, I apreciate the offer, but my father's an F1 nut and I'm getting him to do it for me. Thanks again though.

Well, it's going to be a long night. First an away game when JYP goes head to head against SaiPa. Me and about fifty other JYP fans. We come home about midnight. Then about hour recovering from the trip. Second qualifying, two hours of sleep and the race. Then few hours of sleep and our Fan Club's floorball practice. I'm looking forward to it.

I MISSED IT!!!

I'm so angry! Yesterday my close friends just HAD to throw a party during the first race of the season and I couldn't tape it, and today I had to run to IKEA in such a hurry that I forgot to set the VCR to tape!

You didn't miss much. These new rules makes the race quite boring. One engine stall at the start and one collision and that's pretty much it what happened.

I don't know Padawan. Fisichella walked away, but there were a number of good battles throughout the field all race long. And really, the winning margin was only 5 1/2 seconds. That's a far fry from the 45 second winning margins for Schumacher last year.

But wait for the new Ferrari first.

I really don't like the new rules. No more engine and tyre (!) changes.
And they make the cars slower and slower...

Over the last 10 years, the FIA have been making more and more changes to damage the sport.

For years everyone has been clamouring to get rid of refuelling (except Ferrari), so what do they do? Eliminate tyre changes! The long-life engines? Not necessarily a bad idea, but they've initially increased costs, and you end up with BAR retiring their cars on the last lap!

I've hated refuelling from day one, and I still think that it should be banned, but the worst rule change of all was the grooved tyres. Bring back mechanical grip, and effectively reduce the downforce.

Sorry, I could rant about this for hours and hours.

Bigtime! I miss the decent coverage they used to have on Speed. A couple of years ago, I actually was enjoying the rallies more than the Grands Prix...

I could go into a big list of drivers I love, from Henri Toivonen, through Kankkunen, Mäkinen, Grönholm, Panizzi, and Märtin, but it'd be a long one . . .

I love a lot of motorsport, including Champ Cars and sprint cars, but not stock cars or IRL. Lately, I'm really getting into MotoGP again.

I figured you were, with your Scandanavian connections and all.

Mexico is currently underway. If you happen to hear anything about action, DON'T tell me. Speed coverage is at 11pm EST on Sunday.

I'm not a big fan of the new 90 minute tape delayed event recaps either. Too much fluff, not enough in-car video. Those same day, 60 minute, daily recaps are just a sweet, sweet memory unfortunately. Guess they have to fit those 14 hours of NASCAR programming in sometime though.

Where exactly do you live 007? You're not in NY are you?

Yep, just moved from the Village to the UES.

Those 60 minute daily recaps were gorgeous. We actually had better TV coverage than you could get in Europe! Problem was, Speed was taking a ratings beating for them, and they couldn't afford to keep it up. People don't know what's good. WRC.com used to have a lot of video, plus a pretty neat rally radio, but now you have to pay upwards of $60 for it.

Eurosport.com still has some good free video. I relied on them for Dakar coverage this year since I don't have OLN.

You must have been to Lime Rock Park, right?

I finally got a chance to check out Eurosport.com. It's fun, I don't know why I never thought of that.

I'm ashamed to say that I've never been to Lime Rock. I've tried to organize trips to Indianapolis for the GP the last few years, which of course fell through, but the only race I've attended in person was the Monaco GP in 2001.

I like the new Avatar, by the way. It's nice to see good-looking cars race again.

Thanks man. I'm pumped for this weekend's 12 Hours of Sebring.

You've got to make it to Lime Rock for their July 4th event. ALMS and Speed World Challenge headline. Gin and Tonic's are on me if you can make it up.

Don't waste your money on the USGP. A miserable circuit and a miserable city. What about Montreal? We're only 400 miles away.

Hmmmm, I don't think I have July 4th plans yet...

Montreal is definitely easier to get to, plus it's a great city and I like the track. Last time I tried, though, tickets were hard to come by.

I always expected the USGP to be cruddy, but I was talking to a guy on the subway once who went every year. He had the same seat, right at the end of the banking, from where he said he had a great view.

Practice was actually pretty interesting. 104 degree F ambient temp, 136 degree F track temp. Most drivers were on the hard compound, a slippery combination. More than a few drivers found themselves in the gravel including Raikonnen, Barrichelo and Luizzi. Many others put wheels off but were able to continue.

Massa might be a force to reckon with this weekend. Montoya was just over a hundreth off his time. Top 10 covered by less than 1 second.

Quailfying TAPE DELAYED at 12:30 tonight (tomorrow morning). Set your VCR!!!
