Clearly he isn't worth his $3.5 per year. At $2 million, he's not bad at all, but he was never a fit for what the Canucks want.

Enjoy another $1.5 million added to the $1 million for Tucker and $1 million for Armstrong...and people question why Burke was fired.

Lombardi was a UFA anyways at the end of the season. So at worst a 2014 4th rounder ,clears a roster spot and opens up some cap room.

Good move for both teams

Tell me something, what percentage of the cap does Tucker represent? Armstrong? And Tucker was a Burke buyout? news to me.

Enjoy having 10 million tied up in goaltending. Don't worry about the Leafs cap, worry about your own team. It hasn't stopped us from making any moves.

Leafs have no cap issues this year so really makes no difference. But just for fun still less then ballards 4.2 for the next 3 years.

So this is no big deal, but the prospect of cap recovery of Luongo on retirement of $2 million is for many Leaf fans?

Yeah cap isn't a problem for this team.

?? We have roughly 6 million in cap space. Lombardi was abysmal here and for what its worth had one of the worst +/- ratings on the leafs. He will not be missed, the roster spot and pick are just gravy.

The Leafs actually helped their cap situation with this move. Saved 2m, added a draft pick + helped clear roster space.

Great move for the Leafs because Lombardi was horrible last year. I'm sure he'll bounce back, but it wasn't going to be in Toronto (and not under Carlyle's system).

You don't see the difference between comitting to something 10 years down the road, and keeping $2m for one year in cap hit when you've got over $5m in space and basically no way to spend it?

And then consider that Phaneuf is their captain and they have Reimer as their starting goalie. Must send shivers throughout the Eastern Conference.

I hope we do. Get rid of either Connolly or Macarthur (or better yet both).

Getting rid of a decent player for little return to clear space strikes me as bad asset management.

As a Sens fan im very impressed with Tor's moves to clear up bad contracts. They've also been doing a great job of getting rid of redundant players, they just need to flip a coin on McClement or Steckel as someone pointed out earlier. Next move they need to firgure out is Connelly or Kadri as 1C or go for outside help for this role and then be stuck with 4 top three centers and two bottom 2 centers. As an outsider I very much want to see how this experiment plays out and cheering on Kadri being the 1C because I think he deserves a shot, not just a couple games here and there.

Almost as many shivers Daniel Sedin gets when 5ft Marchand is on the ice

He was horrible last year. Kadri is a much better player already.

Good deal for both sides as he might rebound in a familiar environment.

As for cap, why the **** does it even matter for the Leafs? It's not like we are bringing in Eric Staal or someone in for picks at the deadline

How else will they spend that cap space this year? When the cap is 70 mil.

Conner, Lombardi, Vermette - Maloney must be trying to assemble the fastest team in the universe.

It's the trade we've all been waiting for. It's a good move for both sides, and the player. It would be best for both teams and the player for it to work out, because then everyone wins.

He'll be in a good situation here. We've got some speedy wingers that will pair nicely with him, and he already knows the system. This definitely improves Phoenix's offense. Neither Gordon nor Chipchura bring enough offense to the top 9, and Gordon's role is so narrowly defined.

Maloney is the consummate dumpster diver.
