These were the waivers before the lockout:

Quote:
Maxime Fortunus
Travis Morin
Tyler Sloan
Francis Wathier
Toby Petersen
Luke Gazdic
Colton Sceviour
As you can see, Sceviour wasn't waived today which means he's very much in the mix for an NHL job. This also answers the question that waivers will be required for these players to continue playing in the AHL.

Maybe I'm missing something. If they've already gone through waivers before the lockout to play in Austin, why would they need to go through again?

Probably because there was zero threat of them being claimed. I imagine as part of the agreement with the NHL to allow guys on two-way contract to play in the AHL, the PA required they be given an opportunity on waivers again when the season started.

Caught my eye that Thomas Hickey from the Kings is on waivers, I wonder if anyone will pick him and up and if he'll play in the NHL this year.

It's time to sink or swim for him in the NHL. I think he'll get picked up.

thomas hickey is l.a.'s scott glennie. never really understood that pick. undersized dman with no outstanding skills. you'd expect more raw talent in a 4th overall and 1st dman selected. headscratcher back then. headscratcher now.

Good way to look at it for sure.

Minus all the fun on twitter that Glennie has, of course, which we're stuck with.

I'd take on Hickey for Glennie. Could at least help out in CP.

Surprising to no one, all clear.

Hickey did go to the NYI though, and Clune goes to NAS.

Hickey to NYI is good. He'll at least get to play now and show what he's got for the big time.

Renaud Lavoie appears to be going in alphabetic order for waiver announcements today, and that likely means Colton Scviour isn't on them.

Mark said he'd check what this means, but it would seem like to me Sceviour couldn't play with the Texas Stars on Wednesday if he hasn't cleared waivers.

The Stars didn't think they needed some extra toughness in Wathier or Gazdik?

Gazdic can barely play at an AHL level. Wathier is too slow for a regular NHL shift and is injured, not that he was a realistic option anyway.

The Stars as an organization have been moving away from "toughness" at least in the form of fighting.

Heika a few days ago said Sceviour doesn't require waives right now because he previously cleared in September, but I just knew that wasn't right.

It's DBD, but Taylor Baird just said he does, and I'm going with they are right.

If Heika is right, they only exposed these players to waivers a second time as a favor to the players to see if someone would take them on the NHL roster. GMJN is a nice guy, but I don't buy that.

I also don't buy that every team in the league is that nice considering every player previously waived in September was again waived in the past 4 or 5 days (with the exception of the few like Sceviour who are on a NHL roster).
