Epic trade is epic.

As an aside, I love that the article had to go out of it's way to point out that Worcester is "San Jose’s top development affiliate in the American Hockey League". Like they're unnecessarily trying hard to sell the reader on Grant: He's so good, we didn't send him to the ECHL!

I love Brandon Mashinter: a big, mean power forward with better than average hands. He absolutely dominated the Penticton Young Stars tourney a few years back. That said, both of these guys could have been had off of waivers today for free, which tells you something about their relative value.

A 7th in 2014? I'm sure that's what clinched it...

Don't know anything about Tommy Grant.

However, from seeing Mashinter I can certainly tell you guys that Mash does indeed have a better then average hands/shot.

Due to the contact limits I assume that these teams wanted to claim these players but couldn't sue to the contract limit. Each team wanted go claim the other player but couldn't due to this so this leaves each contract # at 50

He was seen as a Clowe replacement for a long time. The past 2 seasons he has been pretty bad though.

Can I get a scouting report from Sharks fans on Mashinter? I honestly have never even heard of him.

A couple years ago people were saying he might be the next Ryane Clowe. I don't know what happened to him since then.

He's a big gritty forward, who has offensive upside. He's struggling this season, but he would fit nicely as a 4th liner in the NHL.

This reminds me of the Stu Bickel trade as one poster on the NYR board mentioned.

Trade a career AHLer for a goon-type prospect, which is fair to label Mashinter. His fight record looks very impressive and perhaps will get his cups of coffee with the team and become a goon.

didnt mash clear waivers today? I get the whole "we want to save a roster spot, so trade him to us instead", but why include the pick?

Thank you both. I'll take him then.

I didn't see any upside in Grant at all, honestly. He's a bit of an overachiever for what he is. Saw him play in person and really wasn't impressed. He could possibly be a 4th liner at the NHL level one day, but there's a 50/50 chance at best of that happening.

I would assume Grant's a better skater than Mashinter though.
