I like Kassian but he needs to play 13 minutes MINIMUM if we're going to figure out what he can do. He's also a power forward, and the bust rate on those is very high. So I think it's going to be awhile - which makes it even more important to be patient with him.

I feel like Kassian is not the kind of guy who will really develop in the minors. His game has a little viciousness in it, and I feel like he's less motivated to be like that in theAHL. That's just my gut instinct.

People have said Schroeder wouldn't have made a difference over Ebbett in last night's game. EXACTLY. If there's no appreciable difference, you develop your guys with upside. That way you get SOMETHING out of it.
Who, Hodgson? Why not mention him. He had a goal, 7 shots, and 20 minutes of ice time last night.

Kassian had 0 shots, -1, 11 minutes.

Also helps that Hodgson is the better player.

While you may be correct for some. You have to be fair to the situation. Hodgson was traded after producing at a fantastic rate (protected minutes or not). Kassian, while had a great AHL stretch before being traded last season, has yet to show what he can do at the NHL level. Once Kassian gets up to speed people will start to like him.

Hodgson was a huge insurance policy on the team. IF something horrible were to happen, like um....say Kesler went down.....having Hodgson fill in with second line scoring would be huge. Trading him was a mistake and solely due to Gillis' arrogance. That nonsense about giving him offensive starts only - all teams do that. The Sedins get 80% of their starts in the offensive zone. You start offensive players in the offensive zone.

Not at all fair.

I consider the trade to be dumb, and think Hodgson is clearly better at this point, but this is completely unfair. Kassian has not had any chance yet.

This comes across as a very uninformed opinion of the trade Gillis made....

They really don't. You might want to look at the numbers of the Canucks' players' compared to other teams because the contrast is quite stark.

Holy **** people are wearing the rose coloured Hodgson glasses (I loved that kid) but there was obviously something **** up going on. If you didn't think Gillis wouldn't take MacKinnon because Sedin/Kesler would hold him back you need to stop smoking it (as an example).

I wish I could filter any post with the words CoHo or Hodgson in it. And I love that kid...but he's gone. Period. End of story.

If anyone honestly thinks Cody Hodgson could have filled Ryan Keslers skates now or at any time in his career is dreaming.

Score on the second line -oh by the way SHUT DOWN the other top player too - Hodgson would get his teeth rattled by his third shift by one hit and be injured............yet again.

He has a good fit now with his sugar daddy Thomas Vanek to pad his totals .

Hodgson needs top line players to maximize his talent. He needs first line minutes. He needs the juicy power play time and to be out to score the old empty netter. When was he ever going to get all that with the canucks? 5 years from now?

He cant stand in front of the net. He will get injured. So until the Sedins retire he would have to pout on the bench. His dad would never allow that.

So the trade was good for both teams. Comparing it is pointless at this stage.

Did people already forget that Kassian is a year younger than Hodgson?

Season isn't over is it? How many points did Hodgson get in his first game last season? That's right, zero.

Ebbet played just over 3 minutes in the first period. Got pulled off the 2nd PP unit.

Say hello to Jordan Schroeder for Wednesday.

Ebbett and Kassian simply doesnt work. Kassian ans Schroeder have had success playing together in the past in the AHL and as well as the pre-season. They're also good friends off the ice, which is good enough reason for me to give them some big minutes together vs calgary

Didn't work in the AHL either, outside of the PP.

Time to waive Ebbett or stick him on the 4th line.

Aren't we all happy we haven't lost Ebbett to waivers at least? Maybe the plan was to play him to showcase how bad he is to the league so he won't get claimed off waivers?
