Brassard 1st star in the Q for last week

http://journalmetro.com/sports/27316...de-la-semaine/

"Brassard a remporté ses trois départs de la dernière semaine, tous à l’étranger contre des équipes de premier plan. Il a alors maintenu une moyenne de 2,00 avec un pourcentage d’arrêts de ,944, alors qu’il a affronté 36 tirs par match en moyenne. Brassard a maintenant 30 victoires cette saison, le deuxième total dans la ligue derrière les 43 gains de Fucale."

He's an even better player now, I'd say he's one of the if not the very best defenceman in the league.

Brassard heads decent goaltending prospect crop from QMJHL

Quote:
Francois Brassard, Quebec Remparts
NHL Rights: Ottawa Senators
Drafted 166th overall, 6th round, 2012

Francois Brassard is well on his way to fulfilling the classic storyline of 'local boy does good'. A native of Gatineau, Brassard was drafted by the Ottawa Senators and could one day find himself manning the crease across the river from his hometown. So far, he appears to be right on target.

Brassard split the starting duties in Quebec during his rookie season last year with Phoenix Coyotes prospect Louis Domingue. Domingue graduated to the pro ranks in the off-season and Brassard inherited the #1 role for the Remparts.

Despite the extra duties on the ice, Brassard has moderately improved his numbers. After posting a 2.80 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage in 37 games as a rookie, he now boasts a 2.78 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage in 55 games so far in his sophomore year. He currently leads the QMJHL in minutes played and has a record of 30-18-2-2 along with two shutouts.

Projected to be one of the top teams in the QMJHL this year, the Remparts have struggled to live up to those expectations. Currently 6th in the league, Quebec has a talented roster that could make significant noise in the playoffs. Although Brassard did not appear in any post-season matches last spring, he has the ability to steal a game and will be a crucial part of the Remparts' playoff efforts.

Filatov scored another GWG in the playoffs the other night. His team leading first-seeded AK Bars 2-0.

I'm hopeful that we'll hear something this week about 2009 7th round draft pick Michael Sdao signing with the Sens (or at least a PTO with Binghamton). Sdao is a big (6-4, 230) , physical d-man who just finished his senior season at Princeton last weekend. He had 8 goals and 7 assists in 31 games this past season, and made the All-Ivy league 1st team.

Yeah, we discussed him in Bingo thread. He's now available. Last year Blood was signed 1 week after his season was over and played a few games. There is more need on D in Bingo this year so Sdao could be on the phone with Murray. Unless he decides to finish his classes in Princeton.

I really don't see the reasoning behind Ceci dropping so much on that list especially he's still outperformed the majority of players on that list despite his bad stretches.

They can put Ceci at the bottom of every list for all I care. As long as BM and TM like how he is progressing then I am happy.

I really question such a decision. Ceci may have his flaws, but at his worst he is still an oversized puckmoving defenseman with a big shot that is an asset with the man advantage.

I'm confident he'll be an NHLer, just needs some time to improve his quickness and get the kinks out of his defensive game.

Not worried about Ceci at all.

Lots of people thought Karlsson was too small and Cowen was too slow to be effective NHL'ers. Well one is a Norris winner and the other would already be a top 4 NHL defeneman if he wasn't hurt.

Ceci has a booming shot, terrific offensive instincts. Just needs work on his defensive game, playing more physical and his skating. He will be fine.

A toolsy 6'3 210 pound defender that got selected by one of the best developmental organizations in the NHL.

Ya, I wouldn't worry much.

Re-drafts after 8 months look as ridiculous in practice as they are in theory. There are literally 15-18 players who Ceci will be ahead of on that list by this time next year or the next.

Seriously though, if I were a NHL GM I'd be firing any scout who are short sighted enough to have players like Laughton, Faksa, Girgensens and Dansk over Ceci.

In my own extremely biased opinion, the only D who will stand above Ceci are Trouba and Rielly. Lindholm and Murray will be comparable but Ceci will put up better offensive numbers while playing fewer minutes behind Karlsson.

Ceci at 15 was robbery.

They play pretty damn different styles. Not a good comparison here really. Offense is not the question with Ceci what so ever.

I really only think that Trouba and Murray will be better than Ceci. From what I've seen of Ceci he has a pretty high ceiling. Incredible tools and a very intelligent player.
