From many threads I've read and posts by SJ fans, it would seem that he is available. Ottawa could probably use another D, even just as a stopgap for this season with Cowen out for the year. I know he's slower than molasses in January in the north pole, but he's an NHL Dman and can hit (and fight, I assume), and we could probably use the extra toughness. I wouldn't give up a ton for him, but what would you want for him? Note that we don't have a 2nd this year.
Watching him last year was a real eye opener. Really, really, really slow player. I'd still like to have him on the third pairing, but...at this point, it's hard to say what his value is at. Low-ish I would imagine. Certainly not Greening.
We don't have a clear understanding of Murray's value yet, he was recovering from a fractured Adam's apple at the end of last year and was very bad after that, but it is not very high regardless, especially with him being a UFA at the end of the season.
No, you guys can't have Greening. Condra on the other hand...
I'd do Condra+, depending on the + of course. But at the deadline, a player like Murray would garner somevalue because he's UFA and has playoff experience so I wouldn't trade him until then, if at all.
Douglas Murray is starting to get too slow for the NHL game yet is paid $2.5 million. He'll give you toughness on the backend and can fight a little. He can also clear out anyone getting too close to your goalie. But not very much else.
Just FYI, Murray was apparently dealing with an injury last season that was slowing him down considerably (or so he claims). So while I dont have a huge amount of hope, it is entirely possible he could return to form and if so his value goes way up.
Its a top 4 d-man to replace Cowen who is injured for the year that is the need. If Cowen was healthy then the bottom pair would have likely been Phillips-Lundin.
At this point its unknown who it will be now but it looks like it might be Phillips-Benoit and Wiercioch-Gonchar as the 2nd pairing because Lundin is injured for the next couple weeks.

Like I said before, if the Sharks are in playoff contention by the TDL, I don't see DW trading Murray. You don't trade depth defenseman for picks if you are contending, and the only teams that will want Murray at the deadline are contending teams (hence they'll probably only offer picks).

I agree. But if he returns to form, he's too valuable to the Sharks if they are contending, so I don't see him getting traded then either.

Yah unless somehow one of Petrecki, Iriwin or Tennyson really shows him up, which would be a small miracle.
Sens bottom pairing is fine with Phillips-Benoit/Boro/Lundin
What the sens need is a top 4 dman, which will be filled in with Weircioch. Who i think is ready for those minutes.

They need an NHL d-man. Obviously a top-4 guy would be ideal, but they aren't really in a position to turn down bottom-pair help. We're relying on Benoit, Borowiecki, and Wiercioch to fill the 5-7 spots, which could be among the weakest groups in the NHL.
He's worth at least a 2nd so you're gonna have to give up more than Condra.
He's a 32-year old pending UFA who played 16 minutes a night last year and didn't even face tough competition. I like the Sharks, so I hope they get a 2nd, but that seems rather unlikely.

The Sens are still retooling. We're building from within. Why give an asset for a defenseman we dont necessarily need when we have youth that can play those minutes?
Murray himself said they would rather play a prospect before traded for a player.

I should be clear - I don't think they should trade for Murray. I actually agree with your comment in the context of "we're re-tooling so let the chips fall where they may". I don't, however, believe the defense is fine for a team that plans to win a lot of hockey games. Which is fine if they don't plan on winning a lot of hockey games.
I posted a trade thread awhile back inquiring about the value of David Schlemko. I think someone like that would be of use: young, controllable, somewhat proven, and with room for growth.
