This is all injury coverage and making up for Visnovsky being an idiot.

Bringing back Martinek and acquiring Hickey and Finley gives the NYI 7 defensemen. In no order:

Streit - Martinek
MacDonald - Hamonic
Hickey - Carkner
Finley

It looks worse than on paper than it really is.

As for Aucoin, he's likely filler until both Bailey and Joensuu are back from injury at which point Reasoner will likely have slid off the roster.

NYI won't engage in a prospect-for-player trade as too many prospects are looking too good to just give up.

Isles had only 13 healthy forwards on the roster before this. Strome is likely headed back to OHL which would leave them at 12.

Dumpster diving as mentioned by an earlier poster is the perfect metaphor for Snow's recent maneuvers.

Staple says Strome (and Reinhart) have been told they're going back to juniors. With Aucoin, Isles now have 13 forwards.

If the Isles waive the Leafs can reclaim him for the Marlies.

Let's see. 61 games, 1 goal, 5 assists, -25. The numbers don't even tell the whole story. His abysmal play did major damage to linemate Nino Niederreiter's development (1 point in 55 games!).

Sucks. Calder Cup contending Marlies lose Aucoin and likely Gardiner, Kadri, Frattin.

So how many players will the Isles have at the start of the season? You're only allowed 23 right? Can they still claim another player off waiver tomorrow?

I wouldn't call him a liability, but he's one of the most useless players I've ever watched. He does nothing. Can't score, doesn't PK.

In short, yes.

Better answer; he's an absolute liability out there considering he can't contribute a lick on offense and what he was brought in to do (play 5-10 min, kill PKs) he can't even do that.

Ever considered that those 3 NHL calibre kids were the reason they are in contention? It does suck losing Aucoin for the Marlies. Savy veteran playmaker who can help many players confidence with his consistency to put up points at the AHL level.

The ISlanders signed him because they thought he would be an offensive upgrade on the 4th line compared to Konopka and he wasn't. I think most of us were expecting something like 8-12 goals and he got 1

while the kids helped, the marlies really leaned on aucoin, kostka, and hamilton (and paul ranger). This was a team built with top AHL vets leading the way.

Want to point out that Keith Aucoin(c) out played Jeff Halpern(c) and won the 4th line center spot from him by playoff time for the Washington Caps 2011-12 season.

Aucoin was picked up to add some depth to the Islanders nothing more!

He did not outplay Halpern. He was Dale Hunters pet and in no way deserved a lineup spot during any of the playoff games.

He even got PP1 time for ****s sake.
