Pretty much why I'd want Bennett, he's no where near a complete project but he has a lot of skill. If harnessed and nurtured properly he could be a special player.

Plus getting a second first rounder of theirs which would be a mid first rounder let's say gives us a chance for a good defensemen or goalie like fucale. Heck we can consider even a long term project.

Pretty Bang-on assessment really.

Only difference is I'd put biggs in the third. I still don't see the offense many believe in him for.

Pretty easy to cue all the Kulemin trade rumours. haha

No chance I trade him yet. He'll come around and next week it will be trade someone else.

But I still think a legit top 3 shutdown dman is in dire need on this team, and also I think we need to continue to inject size and tenacity into the lineup, although I think we might be able to fill that problem with our prospects eventually.

I see the following as longterm locks moving forward:

Forwards: Lupul, Kessel, Kulemin, JVR
Defense: Phaneuf, Rielly, Gardiner

Then there is a bunch of bubble guys: Grabovski, Colborne, Kadri, Gunnarsson, McClement, Bozak.

If he continues to perform the way he has I wouldnt hesitate to move Kadri into the lock group. I personally hope one of him or Colborne evolves into that number 2 centre for us and it looks like Kadri certainly might right now.

The number one centre is obviously pretty elusive, and I think its key for this group to be effective that it is a two way, sizeable, playmaking centre. Kessel and Lupul would both benefit from a player that fits that mold (Getzlaf, Toews, Kopitar, etc).

The number one goalie is next to impossible to try and predict.

But I feel comfortable saying that Ashton, Biggs, Devane, Broll, Leivo, D'amigo give me hope that our bottom 6 will eventually have the grit, scoring, and puck control abilities to compliment our top 6.

Id hope for something eventually like this:

Lupul - xxx - Kessel
JVR - Kadri - Biggs
Kulemin - Colborne - Ashton
Komarov / D'amigo - McClement - Devane

Rielly - Phaneuf
Gardiner - xxx
Gunnarsson - Finn / Blacker/ Holzer / Liles / You name it

1G

I would feel very comfortable with the skill and grit of almost every line provided that number one centre brings the right skill set. I could also see Colborne and Kadri being interchangeable eventually (big colborne fan).

From this draft I think, and I am personally not expecting us to do that well this season, there could be an answer to our problems in several prospects. Obviously Mackinnon as the 1c, but I love Barkov and Monahan, and I also love Seth Jones. Lindholm is great too. I think we could be looking at any one of those guys to fill some of those holes.

Anyways, what do you guys think of my assessment and roster moving forward? I dont really believe I put anyone in a role they wouldnt be capable of playing.
Your too confident in our prospects. The D is fine, but your putting too much faith in Biggs, Ashton, and Colborne. Its still uncertain theyll make the league at any capacity, nevermind important producers in the lineup. I can see Biggs slide onto the third line if he can beat out Komarov (who fits there perfect IMHO), but not to keen on either Colborne or Ashton and really dont have high hopes for them at all.

Soooo Niederreiter wants a trade. Would love him on the Leafs. He has been one of the most poorly managed prospects in a long time. Probably could get him for a decent price.

What would you give up?

Fair opinion, I did say I am high on Colborne, but I dont think its out of this world to ask Ashton to produce in that capacity.

I'd do Kule for Niño.

JVR-Kadri-Nino
MacA-Grabo-Koma

Edit: or preferably MacA

Prolly if he gets good chemistry. I am still banking on ashton finding his offense in the A, he's been getting it from time to time but then falls off. It's a bit frustrating for me to see but we need more skilled wingers not bruising garbage scorer.

Finn or Percy. I really would like him here, he's someone very good if utilized properly and I can see why he is frustrated.

Both you and I are very high on colborne, we both know if he plays to his capabilities he could've been our first line center but he's best suited as a third line or second line center.

My initial reaction was to agree, but there are question marks over this kid's character for a reason. In reading more about him, it really seems like he just had some bad luck last year.

I would do this.

I think it would be Kule + tbh. Maybe a 2nd or prospect.
To Mac I would add someone like Blacker/Colborne

I'd risk it for niños potential.

Would gel perfectly with Kadri who also went through the media blaming him for having "character issues"

It's a risk I will take.

Why would we want get rid of liles for a prospect when he is a crucial asset in the powerplay and in general. The folks of toronto hasn't seen what liles can do fully yet due to his season being cut short. He is worth a lot more than Nino that I can assure you.

van Riemsdyk - Kadri - Niederreiter

I really like the idea of that line. Super skilled and pesty center surrounded by some big wingers that can cause havoc around the net.

I'd love Nino on this team, absolutely love it.

I wonder if the Isles will actually trade him.

55 games played, 1 goal, -29

I don't care how young he is, I'd be wary of this player.

Plus he has a history with Kadri.
