Good for AK. AK was the best offensive player we had in Montreal in a long time, and the hate he gets from Habs fans is annoying. He put up 65 points (in 69 games), and then 47, 84, and 65 in full seasons, and people say he was "enigmatic". Erik Cole puts up 65 points last season and he's the greatest thing ever.
Very good signing for Florida. If he goes on one of his streaks that's like a quarter of a season in the bag now. Huge asset on the PP. He's got a lot to teach their players and he hasn't been bad defensively recently. He's a pretty solid vet now. I remember when caps got Fedorov, everyone was super pumped and played like they were on PCP for the rest of the year. Lots of these guys probably idolize Kovalev (Huberdeau definitely), so may have that same effect. Also Huberdeau-Mueller-Kovalev has a change of having very good offensive chemistry and won't be as atrocious defensively as it looks, though they're probably gonna get the most sheltered minutes of anyone in the league.
People always harp on him but forget that he has always been an absolute playoff gamer.
And one last thing no one seems to have mentioned. Florida has spent the last few years trying to get transplanted Canadiens fans to go to their games, sometimes to the point where it seems embarrassing. Kovalev is a demigod to casual Canadiens fans. Hmm.

How do people make such statements as "I saw him yesterday, he still has it!"? Shouldn't teams be looking at the trend over time of these guys play and make some rationale decisions about how they might perform in the future? Too many guys looking GREAT in camp that I'd bet will turn into duds once they have to play more than 1 or 2 NHL games in a row after a long lockout. I think the teams heavy on youth and guys that played during the lockout are gong to fare very well. I don't see guys like Kovalev earning his $$$.
